Updated Lexus NX debuts with new hybrid tech, more EV range

The NX measures 4,690 mm long, 1,865 mm wide and 1,660 mm high, with a 2,690 mm wheelbase. It is 30 mm longer than before, while width, height and wheelbase remain unchanged. Curb weight ranges from around 1,690 to 2,130 kg, with 18- and 20-inch tyres offered.

Revised exterior and cabin

The NX continues Lexus’ “VITAL TECH” design theme with a wider, lower-looking stance, more integrated lighting and grille elements, and greater use of black trim. The headlights gain a new dual-line DRL and indicator signature, while the rear introduces Lexus’ first Double L Signature with an illuminated Lexus logo. Nine exterior colours are offered, including new Sonic Tellus and F Sport-exclusive Titanium Carbide Gray.

Inside, a 12.3-inch digital instrument display and 14-inch multimedia screen are aligned horizontally, alongside a redesigned steering wheel, Responsive Hidden Switches and continuous ambient lighting. Mark Levinson-equipped models add perforated speaker grilles with illuminated rings. Five interior colours are available, including new Abalos and F Sport-exclusive Prominence.

F Sport versions add unique aerodynamic elements, Piano Black trim, lightweight 20-inch wheels, red brake calipers, an all-black dashboard and contrast stitching.

The new Sensory Concierge coordinates lighting, music, climate control, seat temperature and fragrance through three modes: Inspire, Radiance and Revitalize.

A glovebox-mounted fragrance generator can hold up to three cartridges, with five scents offered: Tenko, Keifu, Seiyo, Hanya and Shinmei, each paired with specific graphics, music and ambient lighting.

New hybrid and PHEV systems

The NX gets a completely redesigned hybrid system with a smaller, lighter e-Axle integrating the transaxle, motor and power control unit, while silicon-carbide semiconductors and higher battery output improve efficiency and performance.

The NX 450h+ PHEV gains a new lithium-ion battery with 8% more output and up to 30% more capacity, plus DC fast charging and a power-operated charging lid. A lower, transverse battery layout also improves body rigidity, handling and stability.

Prototype specifications include:

• NX 450h+: 2.5-litre AWD PHEV, tentative 215-240 kW system output, 0-100 km/h in around 6.0 seconds, with target EV range exceeding 40 miles in North America, 100 km WLTP in Europe and 140 km WLTC in Japan.

• NX 350h: 2.5-litre hybrid with FWD or AWD, tentative 140-180 kW output and 7.1-7.8-second 0-100 km/h acceleration.

• NX 300h: 2.0-litre FWD hybrid, tentative 145 kW output and 9.2-second 0-100 km/h time.

Specifications remain under development and vary by market.

Chassis and driving changes

Lexus tested the updated NX at Toyota Technical Center Shimoyama and the Nürburgring, increasing floor rigidity by around 25% and suspension-tower rigidity by about 30%. Additional reinforcement and revised hybrid controls also help reduce noise and vibration.

Models without Adaptive Variable Suspension get new ultra-low-speed-valve dampers, while all versions gain a 360 mm steering wheel, Variable Rack Gear steering, retuned electric power steering, and revised accelerator response.

The E-Four AWD system can now continuously power the rear wheels, while new brake control helps stabilise yaw and roll in corners. The driving position has also been revised, and aerodynamic changes reduce rear lift and improve high-speed stability.

Updated Lexus Safety System+

The latest Lexus Safety System+ adds wider object detection, map-linked deceleration for curves, junctions and toll booths, improved intersection braking, and a Driver Emergency Response System that can bring the vehicle to a stop on the shoulder. Blind Spot Monitor can now detect bicycles and motorcycles, while the Panoramic View Monitor adds a 3D view.

Towing support is also expanded, with Lane Tracing Assist, Driver Emergency Response and extended blind-spot monitoring available while towing. The updated NX begins its global rollout from late 2026, with market-specific specifications and pricing to follow.
