All-new Mitsubishi Pajero revealed, Middle East confirmed

The fully redesigned Pajero is back as Mitsubishi’s flagship off-roader, with a ladder-frame chassis, seven seats, advanced four-wheel drive and a new 2.4-litre diesel engine

Japanese automaker Mitsubishi Motors has revealed the all-new Pajero, positioning it as its new-generation flagship SUV. Built in Thailand, it will launch there first, followed by Japan and Australia during fiscal 2026. From fiscal 2027 onward, Mitsubishi plans to introduce it in around 100 countries, including the Middle East. First introduced in 1982, the Pajero has accumulated production of more than 3.29 million units across four generations and was sold in over 170 countries and regions. The new model continues Mitsubishi’s traditional Pajero themes of “Confidence” and “Comfort”, while adding “Prestige” to reinforce its flagship positioning.

Design and dimensions

Developed under the “Grand Charisma” design concept, the new Pajero retains an upright stance and strong horizontal lines, with pronounced fenders and sculpted surfaces. The front features T-shaped headlights and either a horizontal-bar or honeycomb grille, while heritage references include a C-pillar inspired by the first-generation Pajero’s roll bar and a hexagonal rear motif recalling earlier rear-mounted spare wheels.

It measures 4,920 mm long, 1,925 mm wide and 1,910 mm tall, with a 2,870 mm wheelbase. Ground clearance is 230 mm on 20-inch tyres, while approach, breakover and departure angles are 30.4, 22.6 and 25.8 degrees respectively. Mitsubishi also quotes a 52:48 front-to-rear weight distribution.

Exterior highlights include Armor Copper Metallic and Phantom Blue Metallic finishes, while Camel is among the available interior colour themes.

Diesel engine and off-road hardware

The new Pajero uses a specially developed 2.4-litre clean-diesel engine with a single variable-geometry turbocharger, producing up to 480 Nm. Selected specifications are rated at 470 Nm. It is paired with a newly developed eight-speed automatic transmission with Sport mode.

A rigid ladder frame uses more high-tensile steel, while suspension consists of independent double wishbones at the front and a five-link rigid rear axle. Mitsubishi says strengthened body mounts and suspension tuning were developed to balance off-road ability with ride comfort and handling on paved roads.

The Pajero combines Super Select 4WD-II with S-AWC. Drivers can select 2H rear-wheel drive, 4H full-time 4WD, 4HLc with a locked centre differential and 4LLc with low-range gearing.

S-AWC integrates Active Yaw Control, stability and traction control and ABS, while seven drive modes cover Normal, Eco, Gravel, Snow, Mud, Sand and Rock. Large 18-inch brake rotors and an electric brake booster are also fitted.

Seven-seat cabin and technology

Inside is a three-row, seven-seat layout with a high driving position. The second row slides through 150 mm and incorporates a tumble function to improve third-row access, while Mitsubishi says the third row has been designed to accommodate adults. Ventilated seats and three-zone automatic climate control are also available.

The dashboard incorporates displays measuring up to 14.3 inches, although selected specifications use 12.3-inch screens. The digital Multi Meter recreates the Pajero’s traditional triple-gauge theme and can display information including altitude, compass direction, temperature, pitch and roll angles and AYC status. Wireless smartphone connectivity is supported, alongside 16 display themes that can change with the time of day.

Acoustic glass is used for the windscreen and side windows to improve cabin refinement, while a 12-speaker Dynamic Sound Yamaha Ultimate audio system with dual amplifiers and noise compensation is available.

Safety and cameras

Safety equipment includes Forward Collision Mitigation with pedestrian, cyclist and motorcyclist detection, Predictive Forward Collision Warning, Emergency Assist for Pedal Misapplication, Emergency Lane Assist and Front Cross Traffic Alert.

MI-PILOT combines adaptive cruise control and Lane Keep Assist for highway driving, while eight airbags include Mitsubishi’s first SRS centre airbag.

A 3D Multi Around Monitor combines four cameras with a three-dimensional representation of the SUV. It also provides a front under-floor view to help drivers see terrain immediately ahead and beneath the vehicle, activating automatically in 4HLc and 4LLc.

MITSUBISHI CONNECT adds remote climate control, vehicle-status checking and an SOS emergency-call service.

What about the UAE?

Mitsubishi has confirmed the Middle East for the new Pajero but has not announced UAE or GCC specifications yet. The newly revealed 2.4-litre diesel could therefore be offered in the region, but at this stage there is no official confirmation of which engine or engines the UAE will receive.

UAE pricing has likewise not been announced. One independent estimate places the starting price at around AED 220,000, but this remains unofficial. For context, the 2026 Toyota Land Cruiser Prado currently starts at AED 199,900 in the UAE.

Mitsubishi says the Pajero will begin reaching Middle Eastern markets from fiscal 2027 onward, with country-specific specifications, prices and launch timing to be announced later.
