Genesis has unveiled the GV90, its first full-size flagship SUV and the production interpretation of the Neolun Concept revealed in 2024. Revealed at the Palace of Fine Arts in San Francisco, it will be offered as the regular GV90 and the more luxurious GV90 Neolun, which features B-pillar-free coach doors. It uses the new eMP (Electric Mobility Prime) platform, developed for Genesis flagship models. Its arrival follows Genesis reaching one million cumulative sales in less than eight years, which the company says makes it the fastest luxury brand to achieve the milestone.
A 123.5 kWh battery, the largest yet used in a Hyundai Motor Group EV, powers two motors producing 490 kW, or 666 PS, and 800 Nm.
Genesis estimates the seven-seat GV90 can cover around 500 km (310 miles) per charge based on internal testing. A 350 kW DC charger can replenish the battery from 10 to 80 per cent in a claimed 22 minutes.
A Wireless Battery Management System reduces physical connections and helps improve packaging efficiency.
The GV90 is also Hyundai Motor Group’s first vehicle with Dual E-LSDs, using an electronic limited-slip differential at each axle to optimise traction and power distribution.
Its multi-chamber air suspension varies stiffness to balance comfort and body control, while electronically controlled dampers adjust damping force. Active rear-wheel steering can turn the rear wheels by up to five degrees.
The GV90 measures 5,285 mm long with a 3,245 mm wheelbase.
The GV90 Neolun introduces the Neolun Arch Gate, described by Genesis as the world’s first independently opening and closing hidden B-pillar coach-door system.
The front and rear doors open in opposite directions, while a dual-motion rear hinge allows the rear door to move outward before rotating open.
To compensate for the missing fixed B-pillar, Genesis uses high-strength dual steel beams inside the doors and a reinforced passenger structure incorporating steel tubes and structural foam.
The GV90 uses cast and extruded aluminium in the underbody, aluminium exterior panels and ultra-high-strength steel along the sides.
A structure ahead of the battery is designed to redirect components including the motor and subframe underneath the vehicle during a frontal collision, helping prevent them from striking the battery.
The battery also gets Thermal Runaway Protection, while a cloud-based diagnostic system monitors for abnormalities.
There are 12 airbags, including what Genesis describes as the world’s first Roof Airbag for severe rollovers. Other measures include a dual-depth passenger airbag, seat-cushion airbags, third-row curtain airbags, enlarged side airbags and a driver’s knee airbag.
An in-cabin monitoring system can identify occupant type and seating position to help optimise airbag and seatbelt operation.
The Neolun features motorised swivelling front seats that can rotate 180 degrees when parked.
The four-seat Neolun Executive Suite adds semi-aniline leather, real wood veneer flooring, a second-row tower console, refrigerator, integrated tables and privacy blinds.
Radiant heating inspired by Korean ondol underfloor heating extends through the cabin, while a Comfort Partition separates the passenger and luggage areas to reduce noise from the boot.
The Smart Vision Roof can independently adjust transparency across six sections.
The GV90 introduces Hyundai Motor Group’s New Power Control System, removing the conventional start button. Pulling a door handle wakes the vehicle, while pressing the brake pedal prepares it for driving.
Its central 23.6-inch OLED Cinematic Display handles instrumentation, navigation and media. When parked, it rises by 90 mm and expands to 24.6 inches. A separate 25-inch head-up display projects driving information.
The new Pleos Connect infotainment system runs on Android Automotive OS and supports third-party apps through the Pleos App Market. Gleo AI provides natural-language vehicle controls and information searches.
Remote Smart Parking Assist 3 can automatically park and exit spaces, while Memory Reversing Assist remembers the vehicle’s previous route and can guide it backwards.
A 25-speaker Bang & Olufsen Premier 3D system supports 7.1.4-channel Dolby Atmos. Virtual Venue can recreate acoustics from locations including Boston Symphony Hall and Wembley Stadium.
Other features include massage seats using 15 air cells and pulse vibration, Ambient Glow lighting, extensive radiant heating and a metal-coated heated windscreen.
Genesis says the GV90 takes inspiration from traditional Korean moon jar pottery, with clean surfaces and restrained curves.
It features Wing Face Micro Lens Array headlights, Genesis’ Two-Line lighting signature, a clamshell bonnet and G-Matrix grille. At the rear, Genesis has eliminated a conventional spoiler and uses flush-mounted surface-emitting taillights.
The GV90 will be offered in 16 exterior colours, with trim choices including natural wood, genuine stone and wool cashmere.
Genesis has also revealed the limited GV90 Neolun First Edition, based on the four-seat Executive Suite, with two-tone paint, 24-inch forged wheels, wool-cashmere trim and dedicated First Edition details.
Three predetermined colour combinations will be offered.
Pricing has not yet been announced as part of the initial global reveal.
