The teaser strongly points to a Mercedes-AMG G63 Cabriolet, highlighted by its AMG-style front fascia, side-exit exhaust system and distinctive V8 engine sound. However, Mercedes-Benz has not yet confirmed the final production name, technical specifications or full launch details.

Four-door soft-top layout

Unlike earlier G-Class Cabriolet versions, which were typically based on shorter two-door models, the new version appears to retain the modern four-door G-Class body style. This layout is expected to improve practicality while maintaining the open-air driving experience ahead of its official launch.

The previewed SUV features an electrically operated folding fabric roof, rear-mounted spare wheel and the familiar boxy G-Class silhouette. The roof mechanism appears to fold into a dedicated rear compartment positioned ahead of the spare wheel.

Not a full traditional convertible

Although presented as a Cabriolet, early reports suggest it may not be a fully open convertible in the traditional sense. Part of the front roof structure appears to remain fixed, likely to maintain structural rigidity, rollover protection and the G-Class’s signature upright design.

Even so, the open-top effect remains striking, especially on a vehicle as tall, rugged and instantly recognisable as the G-Wagen.

Classic G-Wagen identity

The Cabriolet conversion does not compromise the G-Class’s iconic design. The SUV retains its upright stance, exposed door hinges, bonnet-mounted indicators, rear-mounted spare wheel and squared-off proportions. At the rear, the third brake light appears integrated into the spare-wheel housing, while the roof system suggests a complex, bespoke engineering solution.

Powertrain not yet confirmed

Mercedes-Benz has not confirmed the Cabriolet’s powertrain ahead of launch. However, the AMG styling cues, side-exit exhausts and V8 sound strongly indicate an AMG G63 variant. If aligned with the standard G63, it is expected to use a 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8 producing around 585PS and 850Nm in select markets.

Performance figures have not yet been released, and the Cabriolet version may differ from the hardtop due to additional reinforcement required for the open-body structure.

Launch, pricing and GCC details

Production is expected to follow the official reveal, with reports suggesting a 2027 global launch timeline, although Mercedes-Benz has yet to confirm final launch dates, deliveries or market allocations. Pricing has also not been disclosed, but the Cabriolet is likely to command a premium over the standard AMG G63.

For now, UAE and GCC specifications, pricing and launch timing remain unconfirmed. However, given the region’s strong demand for the G-Class and AMG models, the G63 Cabriolet is expected to attract significant attention if introduced in these markets.

For Mercedes-Benz, the upcoming G-Class Cabriolet launch represents more than just a new body style. It marks the return of a rare G-Wagen variant, combining open-air driving with AMG performance, luxury and unmistakable road presence.
