The all-electric ID. Tiguan will be revealed in early October, with the new SUV set to replace the ID.4 and ID.5 in Europe from early 2027, before reaching North America at a later date
Volkswagen has confirmed that the all-electric ID. Tiguan will make its global debut in early October, marking the next step in the brand’s transition to electric mobility. The new model becomes the third established Volkswagen nameplate to enter the EV era, following the ID. Polo and ID. Cross, and will play a key role in the company’s future electric SUV line-up. The Volkswagen ID. Tiguan EV is scheduled to launch in Europe in early 2027, with a North American release planned at a later stage. Prototype models will continue testing under camouflage ahead of the official reveal.
ID. Tiguan to replace ID.4 and ID.5
Volkswagen says the ID. Tiguan will succeed the ID.4 and ID.5, while continuing to be sold alongside the combustion- and hybrid-powered Tiguan globally.
The company says the new EV gets a completely new design and is intended to have the visual presence of a vehicle from the segment above. Volkswagen is also positioning it around premium design, generous interior space, intuitive operation and new technologies.
Thomas Schäfer, CEO of the Volkswagen brand, said the Tiguan name carries strong customer recognition, with more than 8.3 million units produced to date.
Tiguan remains Volkswagen’s global bestseller
The Volkswagen Tiguan is currently the best-selling model globally for both the Volkswagen brand and the wider Volkswagen Group.
Combined deliveries of the Tiguan and its sister model, the Volkswagen Tayron, exceeded one million units in the past year, across petrol, diesel and plug-in hybrid variants.
Meanwhile, the outgoing ID.4 and ID.5 have together recorded more than 950,000 global deliveries since 2021, making them among the most successful electric vehicles in the Volkswagen AG portfolio.
With the introduction of the ID. Tiguan, Volkswagen is aiming to strengthen its position in the electric SUV segment, combining a familiar nameplate with next-generation EV technology.
