Torcal to be Bentley’s most powerful production vehicle ever

Bentley says its approach to performance has historically centred on large reserves of torque delivered with refinement, composure and confidence, rather than pursuing speed alone. Its luxury grand tourers have traditionally been engineered to cover long distances with minimal effort.

The company traces that philosophy through powertrains ranging from the 4½ Litre Blower and Speed Six to the 6.75-litre V8 and twin-turbocharged W12, all characterised by substantial torque being readily available when required.

The Torcal moves that approach into the electric performance era. Bentley says the instant response of electric propulsion provides seamless and uninterrupted acceleration from the first touch of the accelerator, creating a strong but refined surge of performance rather than one dominated by drama or strain.

Every element of the Torcal has been engineered around Bentley’s traditional balance between luxury and performance. Whether accelerating from a standstill or overtaking at speed, the company says the electric vehicle is designed to respond immediately while remaining poised, comfortable and reassuring.

Bentley is expected to fully unveil the production Torcal on September 23, 2026. Earlier reporting also points to a targeted 600 km WLTP range and 400 kW DC fast charging, although these figures are not included in Bentley’s September 3 performance announcement and should therefore be regarded as preliminary until the full specification is released.

More than 850 PS and 1,000 Nm reported

Bentley has not published official power and torque figures in its latest release. However, earlier media first-ride reports quoting Martin Page, product line director for the Torcal, say the electric model will produce more than 850 PS, or about 838 hp, and more than 1,000 Nm of torque. Ars Technica quotes Page directly as saying output will be “over 850 PS” with “well over a thousand newton-meters of torque”, while MotorTrend reports preliminary figures of more than 838 hp and 738 lb-ft, equivalent to roughly 850 PS and 1,000 Nm.

Bentley’s latest announcement stops short of confirming those numbers, but does establish that the Torcal will rank above every previous production Bentley for outright power and acceleration from rest.

Based in Crewe, England, Bentley has been owned by the Volkswagen Group since 1998. Its current handcrafted luxury model range comprises the Continental GT, Continental GT Convertible, Flying Spur, Bentayga and Bentayga EWB.

Bentley says it is developing its future around new technologies, materials, fuels and skills as it works towards combining its traditional levels of luxury, refinement and performance with more sustainable forms of mobility.

For now, the headline figures remain partly under wraps, but Bentley has made one thing official: the Torcal will be the most powerful and fastest-accelerating production Bentley in the company’s history, while its final technical specifications will be revealed separately.
