Tata Motors-owned JLR has unveiled the first Range Rover Sport Electric, introducing fully electric propulsion to the performance SUV for the first time while maintaining its focus on refinement, capability and performance. Designed, engineered and manufactured in the UK, the electric Range Rover Sport is available to order in Dynamic SE, Dynamic HSE, Autobiography and First Edition trims, joining the existing PHEV, petrol and diesel line-up.
The flagship Range Rover Sport Electric SUV uses two 260 kW electric motors, delivering up to 550 PS and 850 Nm, the highest torque figure ever seen in a Range Rover Sport.
The motors and battery are integrated into JLR’s MLA-Flex architecture. With Dynamic Launch Mode activated, the 550 PS version accelerates from 0–60 mph (0–97km/h) in as little as 4.3 seconds, matching the V8-powered P540 model.
Range Rover says torque delivery is up to 50% faster compared to the Range Rover Electric, enhancing responsiveness in real-world driving.
Dynamic Response Pro, including Electronic Active Roll Control and All-Wheel Steering, comes standard on 550 PS variants and optional on 450 PS versions.
Compared to Range Rover Sport PHEV models, the EV features a 61% stiffer body and a 73 mm lower centre of gravity, improving handling and stability.
The Range Rover Sport Electric range is powered by a 118.5 kWh battery, delivering up to 609 km WLTP and around 536 km in real-world conditions.
Its 800V fast-charging system supports rapid charging, adding up to 220 km of range in just 10 minutes, while a 10–80% charge takes around 22 minutes under optimal conditions.
ThermAssist heat management enhances efficiency and performance, while the Range Rover app supports charging location and scheduling.
Battery durability is supported by JLR’s testing programme, including vibration and temperature testing from -40°C to +90°C.
The Sport Electric combines Dynamic Air Suspension, Intelligent Traction Management and virtual all-wheel drive with Twin Valve Dampers and Adaptive Dynamics.
Electronic Active Roll Control can apply up to 1,400 Nm of force across each axle, while Adaptive Dynamics monitors 100 parameters 500 times per second to control body roll and pitch. All-Wheel Steering improves manoeuvrability.
Off-road capability includes 900 mm of wading depth and the ability to climb gradients of up to 45 degrees.
Final development testing took place in Italy's Carrara marble quarries, where the EV tackled extreme temperatures, 45-degree gradients and surfaces ranging from polished marble to deep marble dust. Its wider development programme included Japan's Magarigawa Club circuit.
The test continues a history of Range Rover Sport challenges that includes a record ascent of Pikes Peak, climbing the 999 steps to Heaven's Gate in China and scaling an Icelandic spillway.
The Sport Electric remains visually close to other Range Rover Sport models, with an aerodynamically optimised grille and alloy wheels distinguishing it. Together, their designs can contribute up to 10 additional miles (16 km) of range at motorway speeds.
Range Rover has also developed a distinctive acoustic signature, with sound profiles designed to complement the EV's driving character and drive modes.
The Dynamic SE, Dynamic HSE, Autobiography and First Edition line-up is complemented by an optional Black Pack and Satin Wrap. The First Edition comes in Zadar Grey with Satin Wrap, a black contrast roof and 22-inch alloy wheels.
Autobiography customers can use the Range Rover Bespoke commissioning service, which offers an extended selection of paint colours, configurations, material finishes and personalisation, including unique embroidery.
Each Sport Electric also gets a Battery Digital Twin, allowing Range Rover to proactively maintain the vehicle using Software Over the Air capability. The battery carries an eight-year or 100,000-mile (161,000 km) warranty, with exact coverage varying by market.
The Range Rover Sport Electric will be built at Solihull, UK, on the same production lines as PHEV, petrol and diesel models. Order books are now open.
