The 2027 Chevrolet Corvette ZR1X has officially become the fastest production car at Pikes Peak, setting a new benchmark at the legendary Pikes Peak International Hill Climb. Completing the demanding 12.42-mile (20 km), 156-corner course in just 9:30.104, the American hybrid hypercar shattered the previous production car record of 9:53.553, set by a Porsche 911 Turbo S, by more than 23 seconds.
What makes the achievement even more significant is that the Corvette ZR1X Pikes Peak record was set using a near-production specification car. Apart from mandatory safety modifications required for the event, the car retained its standard chassis, aerodynamics, exhaust system and Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tyres.
Powering the ZR1X is a twin-turbocharged 5.5-litre LT7 V8 engine paired with a front-mounted electric motor, producing a combined 1,250 hp. This advanced hybrid all-wheel-drive system proved highly effective in the thin mountain air, delivering instant torque, strong energy recovery and consistent performance throughout the climb.
Often referred to as the “Race to the Clouds”, the Pikes Peak International Hill Climb is one of the most challenging motorsport events in the world. The course climbs nearly 5,000 feet (1,524 metres) to a summit of 14,115 feet (4,302 metres), with constantly changing weather conditions and 156 corners testing both driver and machine.
Chevrolet entered the ZR1X in the Hybrid Production class, with experienced IndyCar driver JR Hildebrand behind the wheel. The goal was clear: not just compete, but set a new production car lap record at Pikes Peak that could stand for years.
The Corvette ZR1X record run adds to an already impressive list of performance achievements. Chevrolet has confirmed blistering acceleration figures, including 0-60 mph in 1.68 seconds and an 8.675-second quarter-mile time, along with the fastest Nürburgring lap ever recorded by an American production car.
The ZR1X also builds on the legacy of the Corvette ZR1, which has previously set production car lap records at circuits including Road Atlanta, Road America, Watkins Glen and Virginia International Raceway.
