Volkswagen has unveiled the new ID. Tiguan electric SUV, which will replace the ID.4 and ID.5 in early 2027. Built on the updated MEB+ platform, the all-electric mid-size SUV introduces bolder styling, a more premium interior, upgraded technology and a claimed WLTP driving range of up to 600 km. The new Volkswagen ID. Tiguan brings the brand’s bestselling Tiguan nameplate into its electric SUV line-up, following production of more than 950,000 ID.4 and ID.5 vehicles. Manufactured in Emden, Germany, it will be sold alongside the petrol, diesel and hybrid-powered Tiguan produced in Wolfsburg.
The Volkswagen ID. Tiguan will be offered with three electric powertrain options. The entry-level rear-wheel-drive variant produces 190 PS (140 kW) and uses a 58 kWh battery. The mid-range rear-wheel-drive version delivers 286 PS (210 kW) with a 77 kWh battery, while the flagship 4MOTION all-wheel-drive model produces 299 PS (220 kW) and also uses a 77 kWh battery. The maximum claimed WLTP range is 600 km, although individual variant ranges have not been specified.
Claimed energy consumption ranges from 14.9–16.3 kWh/100 km for the 190 PS variant, 14.6–16.2 kWh/100 km for the 286 PS version and 15.7–17.2 kWh/100 km for the 299 PS AWD model. Maximum towing capacity is 1,800 kg with the smaller battery and 2,000 kg with the larger battery.
The five-seat electric SUV also features a 32-litre front storage compartment, or frunk, and up to 534 litres of luggage space. Four equipment grades will be available: Trend, Life, Style and R-Line.
The new Volkswagen ID. Tiguan adopts the brand’s Pure Positive design language, replacing the softer crossover styling of the ID.4 and ID.5 with a more substantial SUV stance, sculpted surfaces, sharper lines and conventional pull-style door handles.
Inside, upgraded materials, ambient lighting and a redesigned dashboard create a more premium atmosphere. The Volkswagen ID. Tiguan interior features a 10-inch Digital Cockpit, a 15-inch infotainment touchscreen and an optional 12-inch front-passenger display, a first for a European Volkswagen model. The passenger screen supports infotainment and gaming, with a privacy mode designed to prevent driver distraction. Audio can be played through Bluetooth headphones.
Responding to customer feedback, Volkswagen has reintroduced physical buttons for key functions, including climate controls and the multifunction steering wheel. A centre-console controller handles audio adjustments, while two optional Qi2 wireless charging pads feature magnetic smartphone positioning.
The Volkswagen ID. Tiguan introduces a Retro display mode inspired by the fourth-generation Golf, recreating its distinctive blue-and-red instrument graphics. The digital cluster combines a traditional speedometer with a stylised rev counter that indicates electric power delivery rather than engine speed.
The infotainment system also features a customisable virtual garage showcasing six classic Volkswagen models: Golf I, Golf II Country, Golf IV, the first-generation Tiguan, Race Touareg and Beetle.
Standard one-pedal driving provides strong deceleration when the accelerator is released. Optional Connected Travel Assist enables assisted motorway lane changes, traffic-light recognition and automatic stopping at red lights, within the system’s operating limits.
Available features include electrically adjustable front seats with massage, memory and ventilation, a 480-watt Harman Kardon sound system, a panoramic sunroof and Digital Key functionality. The latter allows compatible smartphones to lock, unlock and start the SUV, with access shareable through the Volkswagen app via text, messaging services or email.
An optional Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) PowerSocket adapter connects to the charging port to power external devices, including e-bikes and electric grills.
Pre-sales for the Volkswagen ID. Tiguan begin in Germany and several European markets on 13 October 2026, with prices starting at €42,695 (approximately US$47,840 / AED 175,840).
The new electric SUV is scheduled to launch in early 2027, although specifications and pricing may vary by market. Volkswagen has not yet announced the ID. Tiguan’s UAE or wider GCC launch date or pricing.
