Tata Motors-owned JLR has unveiled the Jaguar Type 01, a four-door electric luxury GT that marks the start of a new era for the British brand. The world premiere took place in New York, with digital displays across Times Square, DUMBO and the Lower East Side before the Jaguar Type 01 made a dynamic arrival at STORIED in West Chelsea on closed roads on Manhattan’s West Side. Designed, engineered and built in the UK, orders open in early 2027, with first customer deliveries expected in the second half of the year. The Jaguar Type 01 price starts at £130,000, around US$172,000 or AED 633,000.
The Type 01 is the first production Jaguar based on the bespoke Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA). Its tri-motor all-wheel-drive system produces up to 1,030 PS and more than 1,300 Nm, with intelligent torque vectoring, while 0–62 mph (0–100 km/h) takes as little as 3.2 seconds.
The chassis combines four-corner air suspension, switchable-volume air springs and twin-valve active dampers, with all-wheel steering improving low-speed manoeuvrability and high-speed stability. Jaguar says its stiffest integrated body-and-battery structure yet contributes to a low centre of gravity, 50:50 weight distribution and a large tyre contact area.
An 850V electrical architecture supports DC charging at up to 350 kW, with Jaguar claiming 10–80% in as little as 22 minutes and up to 200 miles of range added in 13 minutes.
Jaguar quotes up to 450 miles of claimed range, while its launch announcement separately specifies a 400-mile EPA range.
Charging ports sit on both sides, while a split-charging system accommodates chargers operating at different voltages. Thermal management transfers energy between the battery and cabin to improve efficiency in hot and cold conditions.
Jaguar says its modelling suggests 99.7% of journeys could be completed without recharging en route. Jaguar Route Planning can automatically schedule charging stops, while the car also monitors how driving style affects remaining range.
The Jaguar Type 01 design combines a long bonnet, low roofline and dramatic four-door silhouette, with Jaguar citing links to the E-type and XJS.
The front features Jaguar’s Strikethrough graphic and Signature, alongside its slimmest LED headlights yet, with HD projection in the upper light units. At the rear are two full-width lights, pronounced shoulders and a glassless tailgate.
Frameless doors allow the glass to meet the body without visible trim, while sensors are hidden behind exterior surfaces. The door handles and three-stage deployable rear spoiler remain concealed until required.
Aerodynamically optimised 23-inch wheels are available, with 21-inch all-season wheels also offered. Colours include Refined Grey, Visionary Silver, Dramatic White, Iconic Black, Compelling Blue, Modernist Blue and Mesmerising Gold, while Design Vision models get exclusive Visionary Silver Satin.
Inside, four individual seats are divided visually by a brass-inspired centre spine incorporating concealed storage, cupholders and rear controls and vents.
The cabin draws inspiration from travertine stone, with brass-inspired anodised finishes and Kvadrat DuoWeave wool-blend textile, paired with leather or Ultrafabrics NeoGrain depending on specification.
A single-glass 24-inch OLED display combines instrumentation and infotainment, supported by a separate 7-inch control interface. Connectivity includes wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, wireless phone charging, integrated apps and a 5G Wi-Fi hotspot for up to eight devices.
Jaguar’s Voice Assistant supports multi-step commands, including starting or stopping charging, opening the powered charge port and planning routes around selected charging locations.
Cabin refinement is supported by Active Road Noise Cancellation and isolated drive units. A full-width Meridian Panoramic Soundbar sits at the base of the windscreen, while Sensory Audio allows occupants to physically feel elements of the music.
The front seats offer hot-stone massage, while a ClearSight Rear View Display replaces the conventional mirror and works with a 3D Surround Camera. The panoramic roof features Virtual Blinds, while Energise and Comfort Cabin Moods combine lighting, fragrance and roof shading.
Jaguar quotes more than 450 litres of combined luggage capacity, with a powered tailgate, split-level storage, underfloor space, pull-out and concealed compartments, and rear seats that tilt forward for longer items.
The Jaguar app will provide access to multiple public charging networks through one account and allow remote cabin pre-conditioning, locking and unlocking, vehicle notifications and other connected functions. An optional Jaguar Home Charger supports scheduled and smart charging, while remote software updates will also be available.
The battery carries an eight-year/100,000-mile warranty, while three- and five-year ownership packages cover vehicle warranty, servicing, roadside assistance and mobility support.
Jaguar named Florence Pugh as the first brand ambassador of its new era, while Jaguar Type 01 arrived at the STORIED launch driven by Jaguar TCS Racing driver António Félix da Costa.
Jaguar describes the Type 01 as its most significant new model since the Jaguar name was established in 1935. Its name reflects the reset: “Type” references Jaguar’s historic naming convention, “0” signifies zero tailpipe emissions and “1” marks the first model of the new era.
Jaguar says the car shown is entering production, although final customer specifications and features may still change before launch.
