Chery Australia has released further specifications for the upcoming Stockman, a diesel plug-in hybrid dual-cab ute that will mark the brand’s entry into Australia's highly competitive pickup segment and expand the global push of diesel plug-in hybrid PHEV utes in the electrified utility space. Customer reservations opened on October 1, 2026, ahead of deliveries beginning on February 1, 2027. Pricing has yet to be announced.
The Stockman uses what Chery calls a 2.5-litre turbo-diesel Super Hybrid system, combining a diesel engine with a plug-in hybrid setup and a 34kWh lithium-iron-phosphate (LFP) battery, positioning it as a strong new entrant in the PHEV ute segment.
Combined output is 350kW and 800Nm, with power sent through an all-wheel-drive system. Chery says the setup is designed to balance long-distance diesel capability with electrified efficiency in a modern plug-in hybrid pickup truck format.
The system delivers up to 96km of electric-only driving range on the WLTP cycle, while an 80-litre fuel tank supports extended long-distance driving typical of Australian ute usage.
The Stockman has a 3,495kg braked towing capacity and 750kg unbraked towing capacity, placing it among high-capability models in the diesel hybrid ute category.
Its off-road hardware includes front, centre and rear differential locks, while ground clearance exceeds 247mm. All-terrain tyres are fitted as standard.
The chassis uses double-wishbone front suspension and a leaf-spring rear setup, reinforcing its focus on heavy-duty load carrying and off-road performance.
The Stockman measures 5,450mm long, 2,010mm wide and 1,890mm tall, with a 3,250mm wheelbase, aligning it with full-size dual-cab ute specifications.
Its cargo tub measures 1,560mm long, 1,560mm wide and 500mm high, supporting practical utility use for work and lifestyle buyers.
Inside, the Stockman gets a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster and a large 15.6-inch infotainment touchscreen with a premium 14-speaker audio system, reflecting increasing tech expectations in modern pickup truck interiors.
Chery also says the ute will feature a comprehensive suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), although the full list of features is yet to be detailed.
Reservations for the Stockman opened online in Australia on October 1, 2026.
Customers who reserve the vehicle before official sales commence are eligible for a pre-launch package comprising a A$2,000 Bunnings gift card and three years or 45,000km of complimentary scheduled servicing, subject to applicable terms and conditions.
The Stockman expands Chery Australia's range into the dual-cab ute segment, targeting buyers looking for a combination of towing capability, off-road ability, everyday practicality and electrified performance as demand grows for hybrid pickup trucks in global markets.
Customer deliveries are scheduled to begin on February 1, 2027, with pricing and further launch details to be announced closer to market introduction.
