Fan-powered electric hypercar delivers 1,000 bhp and 2,000 kg of downforce from 0 kmph, with deliveries set for 2026

McMurtry Automotive has revealed the final production version of the Spéirling PURE, its single-seat electric hyper track car engineered for extreme performance while offering improved usability for private owners. The company says the production model features 95 per cent new components compared with earlier prototypes, following more than a decade of research, development and testing. The Spéirling PURE will be displayed at the Goodwood Festival of Speed from July 9-12, before making its full production debut at The Quail in California on August 14. Customer deliveries are scheduled to begin later in 2026.

Fan-powered downforce

The defining feature remains McMurtry’s patented Downforce-on-Demand system. Using twin high-speed fans, the Spéirling PURE generates up to 2,000 kg of downforce from a standstill, enabling up to 3g in cornering and braking.

Unlike conventional aerodynamic systems that rely on speed, the fan setup creates suction beneath the car even when stationary. The fans spin at up to 23,000 rpm, extracting air from beneath the chassis and expelling it from the rear, producing a distinctive jet-like sound.

The dual-fan configuration also adds redundancy, helping maintain control in the event of a system issue. McMurtry says downforce remains active even during a spin, assisting stability and shortening stopping distances.

Extreme electric performance

Power comes from a 100 kWh lithium-ion battery using Molicel P50B NCA 21700 cells, replacing the smaller packs used in earlier prototypes. The system drives new Helix electric motors, delivering 1,000 bhp to the rear wheels through an upgraded transmission and e-differential.

Performance figures include 0-60 mph in 1.55 seconds, a top speed of 190 mph (305 km/h) and the ability to sustain 40-50 km of running at LMP2 race pace.

The car also features regenerative braking of up to 200 kW, traction control, ABS and 390 mm carbon-ceramic brakes with six-piston Brembo calipers.

New chassis and design

The production model introduces a redesigned structure while retaining the original concept. The wheelbase increases from 2.0 metres to 2.2 metres, with the overall footprint expanded to accommodate the larger battery and systems.

Dimensions stand at 3,815 mm in length, 1,795 mm in width and 1,056 mm in height, with a weight of around 1,350 kg depending on specification. A new carbon-fibre monocoque meets global motorsport safety standards while improving cabin access and visibility.

Additional updates include a swan-neck rear wing, lighting systems for low-light running, and a rear storage compartment designed to carry a helmet and HANS device.

More usable for owners

McMurtry has focused on improving usability compared with traditional track-only hypercars. The production version includes enhanced service access, more durable underbody skirts and an onboard air compressor for the downforce system.

The car can be operated at track days with minimal support, although factory assistance remains available. Charging from 20 to 95 per cent takes between 20 and 60 minutes, depending on conditions and charger capability.

An optional portable 100 kWh energy storage unit with 120 kW output allows charging in locations without high-speed infrastructure.

Tailored single-seat cabin

Inside, the Spéirling PURE features a custom-moulded single seat tailored to each owner, similar to endurance racing prototypes. Buyers can personalise colours, materials and trim details.

A motorsport-style steering wheel integrates key controls, including fan operation, while a central display provides real-time data such as battery status, speed, temperatures and system settings.

Price and availability

The McMurtry Spéirling PURE is priced from £995,000, excluding taxes and options. This equates to approximately US$1.3 million or around AED 4.8 million.

Built at McMurtry’s facility in the Cotswolds, England, the Spéirling PURE is positioned as one of the most extreme electric track-focused production cars available to private customers.
