Limited to 200 units globally, the 788HS marks the final evolution of McLaren’s 720S, 750S and 765LT line with more power, all-carbon aero and MSO personalisation

McLaren has unveiled the new 788HS, the definitive final evolution of the supercar lineage that began with the 720S and progressed through the 765LT and 750S. The 788HS carries McLaren’s rare High Sport designation, previously reserved for models such as the MP4-12C HS and MSO HS, highlighting its position as one of the most exclusive series-production cars from the brand. Production is limited to 200 units globally, split evenly between Coupe and Spider variants. Each car will be individually commissioned through McLaren Special Operations (MSO), allowing customers to create bespoke specifications as a send-off to this iconic platform. McLaren says the 788HS has been engineered to deliver a more intense and engaging driving experience, combining increased performance, enhanced sound and sharper dynamics.

More power, less weight

At its core is the M840T 4.0-litre twin-turbocharged V8, now producing 788PS (777 bhp) at 7,500 rpm, with 800 Nm of torque delivered at 5,500 rpm. The engine revs to 8,500 rpm, supported by lightweight forged pistons, twin-scroll turbochargers and dual fuel pumps.

With a dry weight of just 1,265 kg, the 788HS achieves a power-to-weight ratio of 623PS per tonne, the highest in the 720S-based model family.

Performance figures underline its capabilities, with 0-100 km/h in 2.8 seconds, 0-200 km/h in 7.0 seconds and a top speed of 330 km/h.

Carbon aero with sharper focus

The 788HS features the most advanced aerodynamic package applied to this platform, constructed entirely from carbon fibre.

Downforce increases by 10 per cent compared with the 765LT, with key elements including a multi-zone front splitter, S-Duct bonnet, raised active rear spoiler, louvred under-wing panel and Formula 1-inspired rear diffuser.

These components improve airflow management, stability and cooling at high speeds, while maintaining balance and driver confidence.

Customers can opt for full Visual Carbon Fibre bodywork in gloss or satin finishes, showcasing the car’s lightweight construction, while Coupe models also feature a functional roof scoop.

Driver-focused cabin

Inside, the 788HS retains McLaren’s signature driver-focused layout, with a steering-column-mounted instrument binnacle and integrated Powertrain and Handling controls.

The cabin features McLaren Infotainment System II, the McLaren Control Launcher and a lightweight carbon fibre centre console. Exclusive HS branding, unique upholstery perforation patterns and a dedication plaque distinguish it from earlier models.

MSO personalisation allows each car to feature bespoke materials, colours and finishes, ensuring no two examples are identical.

Chassis tuned for precision

The 788HS uses Proactive Chassis Control III linked-hydraulic suspension, paired with revised adaptive damping and bespoke calibration.

Ride height is lowered by 5 mm compared with the 750S, enhancing stance and improving handling response. McLaren says the setup delivers greater precision and body control while retaining everyday usability.

A unique engine mount calibration further enhances driver connection without compromising comfort.

Stronger braking and centre-lock wheels

Braking performance is enhanced with carbon ceramic discs derived from the McLaren Senna, paired with six-piston forged aluminium front calipers.

Integrated brake cooling ducts improve consistency under sustained high-performance driving conditions.

For the first time in this series, the 788HS features centre-lock wheels, paired with a new Super Lightweight Forged Alloy design to reduce unsprung mass and improve track performance.

A louder V8 send-off

The 788HS introduces a revised quad-exit titanium exhaust system, delivering a more pronounced and engaging soundtrack.

Enhanced induction and exhaust sound symposer technologies bring more of the engine character into the cabin, adding emotional appeal to the car’s performance.

The end of a defining era

The McLaren 788HS represents the final chapter of a supercar lineage that began with the 720S, evolved through the 765LT and was refined with the 750S.

With increased power, reduced weight, advanced carbon aerodynamics, sharper chassis tuning and extensive MSO personalisation, the 788HS stands as the most focused and exclusive expression of this platform.

As production is limited to just 200 units, it also marks the end of one of McLaren’s most celebrated supercar generations.
