Stuttgart-based Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the all-new Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé EV, introducing a bold step forward for the brand’s high-performance future. Built on the dedicated AMG.EA platform, the new model blends extreme power, cutting-edge battery tech and a dramatic fastback design, while still trying to retain the emotional feel AMG buyers expect from the badge. At launch, the lineup includes the AMG GT 63 4-Door Coupé EV and the AMG GT 55 4-Door Coupé EV. The range-topping GT 63 delivers up to 1,169 hp and 2,000 Nm of torque, while the GT 55 produces 816 hp and 1,800 Nm, placing both firmly in the high-performance electric car segment.
Visually, the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door EV adopts aggressive proportions with a long bonnet, steeply raked windscreen and low-slung fastback profile. The signature AMG grille can be specified with an illuminated surround, while the headlights feature star-shaped daytime running lights, giving the car a distinctive identity on the road.
Aerodynamics play a key role in performance. Active underbody aero elements, an extendable rear spoiler and an adaptive rear diffuser constantly adjust to improve stability and efficiency. The car achieves a drag coefficient of just 0.22, which is impressive for a performance EV of this size.
Large 21-inch aero wheels, wide rear shoulders and unique turbine-style taillights complete the futuristic look.
Inside, the cabin balances performance focus with everyday comfort. The AMG GT 4-Door Coupé EV interior features a 10.2-inch digital cluster, a 14-inch central touchscreen and an optional passenger display integrated into a seamless glass panel.
Other highlights include AMG Performance seats, ambient lighting, a panoramic SKY CONTROL roof and the latest MBUX system with AI integration including ChatGPT, Google Gemini and Microsoft Bing. AMG-specific features such as TRACK PACE and performance menus add to the driving experience.
The biggest innovation lies in its powertrain. For the first time in a production model, Mercedes-AMG uses three axial-flux electric motors, developed with technology from YASA. These compact motors offer higher power density and consistent performance even under repeated high-load conditions.
The GT 63 accelerates from 0-100 km/h in just 2.1 seconds, while the GT 55 completes the sprint in 2.5 seconds. Both versions feature AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive and active rear-wheel steering for better agility and control.
The AMG EV battery technology is equally advanced. The 800-volt system uses cylindrical NCMA cells with direct oil cooling, inspired by Formula 1 and the Mercedes-AMG ONE.
Charging is a standout feature, with up to 600 kW DC fast charging, allowing over 460 km of range to be added in just 10 minutes. A 10-80% charge takes around 11 minutes, while total WLTP range can reach up to 700 km depending on the configuration.
Despite being fully electric, Mercedes-AMG has worked to recreate the emotional feel of a traditional AMG V8. In Sport+ mode, the car simulates gear shifts, exhaust sounds and drivetrain feedback to deliver a more engaging drive.
The system uses more than 1,600 sound elements processed in real time, giving drivers a customisable AMG driving experience even in an electric setup.
Production of the Mercedes-AMG GT 4-Door Coupé EV is set to begin in summer 2026 at the Sindelfingen plant in Germany.
So, would you pick this over a traditional AMG V8, or is electric performance still missing something? Let us know in the comments.
