Italian automaker Fiat has introduced the Multiplay Concept at Stellantis' “Night Before” event ahead of the 2026 Paris Motor Show. The concept explores how a single adaptable vehicle could combine the space of an MPV, the styling of an SUV and the cargo-carrying practicality of a pick-up to meet changing family, lifestyle and transport needs. The concept was presented by Olivier François, Company Strategic Advisor for Stellantis, and Arnaud Belloni, CEO of Fiat, Abarth and Lancia and Chief Marketing Officer for Europe.
The centrepiece of the Fiat Multiplay Concept is its Metamorfosi C-pillar architecture, which features a rear module that slides longitudinally along dedicated guides. This mechanism allows the vehicle to change its configuration according to different passenger and cargo requirements.
In its enclosed family configuration, the Multiplay accommodates six seats alongside an additional multifunctional Petsenger unit. The rear section can then be reconfigured to create a four-seat pick-up with an open cargo bed for bicycles, sports equipment and bulky items.
Another distinctive feature is the rear spoiler, which rotates to become an integrated bicycle rack capable of carrying two bicycles. This approach removes the need for a separate external accessory and reinforces the concept's focus on multifunctionality.
The design draws on Fiat's history of maximising interior space. Introduced in 1956, the original Fiat 600 Multipla accommodated six passengers in a vehicle measuring approximately 3.5 metres. The 1998 Multipla continued that approach, offering six seats across two rows in a vehicle measuring less than four metres.
The Multiplay introduces a flexible 6+1 seating configuration, with the Petsenger seat serving as a multifunctional module. Depending on the situation, it can accommodate a child car seat, provide a dedicated space for a pet or function as a small table or storage compartment.
Its detachable cushion section can also double as a pet leash, while a folding bowl is stored inside a door compartment. Additional pockets, elastic bands and adaptable storage elements further improve everyday practicality.
Fiat has also designed the rear compartment to accommodate two children or, when required, an adult, creating a dedicated space for family activities.
At the front, the passenger seat transforms into a rear-facing Sunseat when the vehicle is parked. Using the dashboard as a backrest, the seat becomes a lounge-style chaise longue beneath the panoramic roof.
Large windows and expansive glass surfaces help maximise natural light, making the cabin feel more open and spacious.
Inspired by Italian summers, the Fiat Multiplay Concept features bright green exterior paint paired with red and pink interior tones inspired by a watermelon. Turquoise accents and a pixelated colour gradient extend into the children's area, giving the cabin a playful visual identity.
Material selection focuses on reducing manufacturing waste and simplifying construction. Most soft surfaces use single-material textiles created through a stitch-free 3D knitting process, while the children's and pets' areas feature waterproof, single-material finishes designed for easier everyday use.
The horizontal dashboard takes inspiration from the Mediterranean horizon and Fiat's traditional approach of carrying exterior body colours into the cabin.
A concealed digital display is integrated into the dashboard and disappears when the vehicle is switched off, preserving the interior's minimalist appearance.
Together, these features demonstrate how the Multiplay concept combines adaptable seating, integrated storage and digital technology without sacrificing its family-oriented design.
Fiat describes the Multiplay as a design and technology laboratory for future innovations rather than a direct preview of a specific production vehicle.
Its adaptable architecture, multifunctional seating and integrated accessories explore how a single vehicle could serve several purposes, potentially reducing the need for separate vehicles or additional equipment. The approach also reflects Fiat's interest in improving resource efficiency through versatile design.
Arnaud Belloni said the project reflects Fiat's ambition to develop practical solutions that adapt to changing family requirements while retaining the brand's distinctive Italian character.
For now, the Fiat Multiplay remains a concept vehicle. The manufacturer has not announced production plans, powertrain specifications, pricing or a launch timeline.
