The locally produced BMW i5 Long Wheelbase electric sedan comes with a 268 hp rear-wheel-drive powertrain, an 81.6 kWh battery and up to 669 km of MIDC range

BMW India has launched the first-ever BMW i5 Long Wheelbase, its first locally produced electric sedan and second locally produced electric car in the country. Built at BMW Group Plant Chennai, the i5 LWB is priced at INR 79.60 lakh (approximately $84,200 / AED 309,400) ex-showroom. The limited First Edition costs the same. The price includes applicable GST but excludes road tax, TCS, registration charges, local levies and insurance.

268 hp and 669 km MIDC range

The rear-wheel-drive BMW i5 eDrive35L M Sport electric car uses an integrated electric drive unit producing 200 kW (272 PS/268 hp) and 410 Nm. BMW claims 0–100 km/h in 6.7 seconds and a top speed of 195 km/h.

Its 81.6 kWh gross battery delivers up to 669 km under the MIDC cycle. Charging supports 11 kW AC and up to 160 kW DC fast charging, with a claimed 10–80% charge in 33 minutes. A BMW Wallbox and installation are included, while one-pedal driving and adaptive recuperation are standard.

Larger body, rear-seat comfort

The BMW i5 LWB measures 5,175 mm long, 2,156 mm wide and 1,520 mm high, with a 3,105 mm wheelbase. BMW describes it as the largest car in its luxury electric sedan segment.

Highlights include the BMW Iconic Glow kidney grille, Adaptive LED headlights, flush door handles, a revised Hofmeister kink with ‘5’ badging, 20-inch M alloy wheels and slim L-shaped LED taillights.

It is offered in Mineral White, Phytonic Blue, Carbon Black and Oxide Grey, with perforated and quilted Veganza vegan upholstery in Copper Brown and Atlas Grey.

The car gets adaptive rear-axle air suspension and increased ground clearance for Indian roads. Inside are ventilated front comfort seats, four-zone climate control, the BMW Interaction Bar and a Sky Lounge panoramic glass roof.

Rear passengers get extra cushioning, a 31-degree torso angle, an armrest and cupholders. CraftedClarity adds crystal-glass elements to selected controls, while a 17-speaker, 655-watt Bowers & Wilkins system is standard.

Digital features

The BMW Curved Display combines a 12.3-inch Information Display with a 14.9-inch Control Display, running BMW Operating System 8.5.

Features include wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, Digital Key Plus, wireless charging in the front and rear, multiple USB-C ports and an interior camera. Digital Key Plus can be shared with up to 18 users.

BMW My Modes includes Personal, Efficient, Sport, Expressive, Relax and Digital Art settings.

First Edition sold out

BMW offered a First Edition limited to 99 units, all of which sold before launch.

It adds rear-seat entertainment with a tablet and holder, Silver Bronze accents, Fineline open-pore wood trim and First Edition dashboard engraving. It is finished in Carbon Black Metallic with Titanium Bronze accents and costs the same INR 79.60 lakh (approximately $84,200 / AED 309,400).

BMW Smart Finance offers installments from INR 79,999 per month with a 55% assured buyback after four years, subject to terms. BMW’s Charging Concierge provides route recommendations based on active chargers and access through a unified prepaid payment gateway.

The car carries a two-year unlimited-kilometre warranty, while the battery is covered for eight years or 160,000 km. Two years of roadside assistance are included, with extended warranty options also available.
