The quick traffic improvements, running from July to September 2026, include works on Emirates Road, Business Bay, Ras Al Khor Road, Al Quoz, Al Mizhar and key school zones

Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has launched a series of “Quick Wins” traffic improvements at 28 locations across the emirate, scheduled between July and September 2026 as part of efforts to enhance road efficiency, traffic flow and safety. The works are being carried out during the summer holiday period to take advantage of reduced traffic volumes, allowing faster completion while minimising disruption to road users.

The programme includes:

  • Four locations around school zones

  • Three locations in development areas

  • 21 locations across various parts of Dubai

Emirates Road expansion

One of the most significant projects is the expansion of Emirates Road, where two additional lanes are being added along a 5 km stretch from the Sharjah border towards Al Amardi Street.

As a key corridor connecting Dubai with neighbouring emirates, Emirates Road experiences heavy traffic during peak hours. The upgrade is expected to reduce congestion and improve travel times by up to 25 per cent.

Key road upgrades

RTA’s quick-win programme also includes targeted improvements at several high-traffic locations, including:

  • Trade Centre Street and Marasi Drive in Business Bay: enhanced intersection efficiency

  • Latifa Bint Hamdan Street near Al Quoz Industrial Area: improved traffic flow

  • Ras Al Khor Road towards Al Khail Road: smoother movement along a major route

Residential-area improvements

Several projects focus on improving access within residential communities, including:

  • Al Khawaneej Street and Al Amardi Street: addition of a new lane at the intersection

  • Ras Al Khor Road towards Dubai–Al Ain Road: right-turn expanded from one lane to two

  • Algeria Street in Al Mizhar 4: lane expansion near labour accommodation access

These upgrades are aimed at increasing road capacity, reducing congestion and improving overall vehicle movement.

School-zone upgrades

Ahead of the new academic year, RTA is also implementing measures to improve traffic flow and safety around schools.

The works include:

  • Zayed Educational Complex in Al Mizhar 2: additional parking facilities

  • Horizon International School in Umm Al Sheif: expanded parking capacity

The upgrades are designed to improve entry and exit movement while reducing congestion during peak school hours.

Data-led planning

RTA identifies improvement locations through detailed technical studies, including analysis of historical traffic data, field surveys, intelligent transport systems, surveillance monitoring and public feedback.

By combining data insights with community input, the authority aims to deliver practical, fast-track solutions that improve mobility and reduce travel times across Dubai.
