Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has officially opened registration for the Dubai RTA self-driving transport challenge 2027, marking a major step in advancing autonomous mobility and smart transport innovation in the UAE. The announcement confirms that registration is now live, with global technology companies, mobility startups, researchers and academic institutions invited to submit solutions focused on smart integrated infrastructure and connected transport ecosystems. The initiative is held under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum. The self-driving transport challenge 2027 offers a total prize pool of USD $1.2 million (AED 4.41 million), positioning it among the most significant global competitions in autonomous mobility. Finalists will be announced in November 2026, while winners will be revealed at the Dubai World Congress for Self-Driving Transport 2027.
According to RTA, the Dubai autonomous mobility initiative is a key pillar in the emirate’s long-term vision to transform urban transport through artificial intelligence and smart systems.
Ahmed Bahrozyan, CEO of Public Transport Agency, stated that the challenge supports Dubai’s goal of converting 25% of all journeys into self-driving trips by 2030, reinforcing its position as a global leader in AI transport and smart mobility Dubai strategies.
The 2027 edition of the Dubai RTA innovation challenge is centred on Smart Integrated Infrastructure, with a strong focus on Vehicle-to-Everything (V2X) technology and intelligent transport systems.
Participants are encouraged to develop solutions addressing key mobility challenges, including:
V2X connectivity retrofit solutions
Predictive traffic analysis systems
Emergency vehicle prioritisation
Green Light Optimal Speed Advisory (GLOSA)
In-vehicle digital signage
Vulnerable Road User (VRU) safety systems
Automated Valet Parking (AVP)
Autonomous digital wallet integration
See-through vehicle systems
Vehicle platooning technologies
These use cases aim to enhance transport efficiency, safety and real-time connectivity across Dubai’s smart mobility network.
The self-driving challenge Dubai 2027 is open to both international solution providers and UAE-based academic institutions.
Participants can apply individually or form consortiums to deliver integrated solutions combining multiple V2X applications into a unified smart mobility platform.
RTA confirmed that the challenge continues to serve as a global platform for autonomous vehicle innovation, attracting leading mobility players from around the world.
The previous edition of the Dubai World Challenge for Self-Driving Transport saw participation exceed expectations by 170%, reflecting growing global interest in autonomous transport UAE initiatives.
The top prize was awarded to the WeRide–Deutsche Bahn consortium for its integrated autonomous taxi and bus solution, while Singapore-based Zelos Technology secured second place for its freight and last-mile logistics innovation.
Applicants can register through the official platform, with submissions expected to focus on scalable, real-world solutions aligned with Dubai’s smart city vision.
With registration now open, the Dubai RTA self-driving transport challenge 2027 is set to accelerate innovation in autonomous mobility, reinforcing Dubai’s ambition to become a global hub for smart transport, AI mobility and connected infrastructure.
