Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority has completed 90 per cent of the new Dubai Harbour bridge project, a major infrastructure development designed to significantly reduce travel time and improve connectivity between Sheikh Zayed Road and Dubai Harbour. The 1.5-kilometre bridge will provide direct entry and exit access to Dubai Harbour, cutting journey times from 12 minutes to just three minutes, a reduction of nearly 75 per cent. Authorities confirmed that partial opening is expected in June, with full project completion scheduled for July.
Developed in collaboration with Shamal Holding, the bridge features two lanes in each direction and can handle up to 6,000 vehicles per hour. It connects traffic from both Deira and Jebel Ali directions along Sheikh Zayed Road directly to Dubai Harbour.
The new route starts near Interchange 5, close to the American University in Dubai, and extends across key junctions including Al Naseem Street, Al Falak Street, and King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud Street before reaching Dubai Harbour.
According to Mattar Al Tayer, the project aligns with Dubai’s long-term strategy to develop smart and efficient transport infrastructure that supports rapid urban and tourism growth.
He stated that the initiative reflects leadership’s vision to enhance mobility, reduce congestion, and improve quality of life for residents and visitors. The collaboration with Shamal Holding also highlights the role of public-private partnerships in delivering large-scale infrastructure projects.
Construction has advanced rapidly, with more than 4.2 million work hours completed without any lost-time injuries. The project involved:
45,104 cubic metres of concrete
8,273 tonnes of steel
Installation of 254 piles
Construction of 66 bridge columns and five ramps
A workforce of over 1,400 engineers and workers across 12 teams has contributed to the development.
Abdulla Binhabtoor described the bridge as a critical step in enhancing accessibility to Dubai Harbour, one of the region’s fastest-growing waterfront destinations.
Located between Bluewaters Island and Palm Jumeirah, Dubai Harbour is home to the largest marina in the Middle East and continues to expand with residential, retail, and hospitality developments.
A 1.5-kilometre master development is currently underway, featuring 24 residential towers and approximately 7,500 apartments, further increasing demand for improved transport infrastructure.
Once fully operational, the Dubai Harbour bridge is expected to ease congestion across key routes while offering faster and more efficient access for commuters, tourists, and businesses.
The project marks another milestone in Dubai’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its road network and support future growth across major urban and tourism hubs.
