Dubai Police has added the 1,197 PS Yangwang U8 to its luxury tourist patrol fleet, unveiling the electrified SUV at WETEX 2026 with emergency flotation capability and a 360-degree tank turn feature

Dubai Police has expanded its luxury tourist patrol fleet with the addition of the Yangwang U8, unveiled at the Water, Energy, Technology and Environment Exhibition (WETEX 2026) at Dubai World Trade Centre on 21 October. Introduced in partnership with Al-Futtaim Automotive Group, the exclusive UAE distributor of Yangwang vehicles, the new patrol combines advanced electrified powertrain technology, off-road capability and distinctive features designed to support police operations and public engagement across Dubai.

Yangwang U8: Performance and Technology

Developed by BYD's luxury automotive brand Yangwang, the U8 features four independent electric motors producing a combined 880 kW (1,197 PS or approximately 1,180 hp) and 1,280 Nm of torque. The SUV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in just 3.6 seconds.

Despite being described as electric-powered in Dubai Police's announcement, the U8 uses a range-extended plug-in hybrid powertrain. It combines a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine with a 49.05 kWh Blade Battery, with the engine acting as a range extender while four electric motors drive the wheels.

One of the Yangwang U8's most distinctive features is its emergency flotation capability. Designed to help the vehicle remain afloat and move through water in certain emergency situations, the system could prove useful during severe flooding.

The SUV can also perform a 360-degree tank turn, rotating on the spot through the independent control of its electric motors. This feature highlights the vehicle's advanced torque management and manoeuvrability, particularly in challenging terrain.

Strengthening Dubai's tourist police patrol fleet

Brigadier Saeed Al Hajri, Director of the General Department of Criminal Investigation at Dubai Police, officially unveiled the Yangwang U8, highlighting the importance of the partnership with Al-Futtaim Automotive Group.

The new patrol vehicle will support police visibility at major tourist destinations across Dubai, including Burj Khalifa, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Boulevard and Jumeirah Beach Residence (JBR).

In addition to its patrol duties, the SUV will serve as a point of contact for tourists and residents seeking assistance, information and guidance about Dubai Police's community services.

Al Hajri said the addition reflects Dubai Police's continued efforts to modernise its fleet by adopting advanced automotive technologies and more environmentally conscious mobility solutions.

Dubai Police's growing luxury and supercar Fleet

The Yangwang U8 joins Dubai Police's high-profile collection of luxury and performance vehicles, which includes the Lamborghini Temerario and Revuelto, Ferrari Purosangue and 812 Superfast, Rolls-Royce Cullinan, Mercedes-AMG G63, Porsche Taycan and Audi RS7 Performance. The force's collection has also featured the iconic Bugatti Veyron.

These distinctive patrol vehicles primarily support tourist policing, community engagement and police visibility at prominent landmarks rather than conventional high-speed pursuits.

The addition of the Yangwang U8 further highlights Dubai Police's interest in electrified vehicles and emerging automotive technologies. Its combination of high performance, off-road capability and specialised emergency features brings a different dimension to the force's existing fleet.

Official unveiling at WETEX 2026

The unveiling was attended by Brigadier Ali Mohammad Faraj Al Muhairi, Director of the General Department of Transport and Rescue; Colonel Mohammad Abdulrahman Abdulwahid, Director of the Tourist Police Department; Colonel Anwar Al Nimer, Director of the Force Vehicles Department; and Yousuf Raisi, Director of Government Affairs and Health, Safety, Security and Environment at Al-Futtaim Automotive Group UAE, alongside other officers.

The Yangwang U8's addition reinforces Dubai Police's strategy of integrating advanced automotive technologies into its operations while strengthening security visibility, community engagement and visitor experiences across the emirate.
