A one-of-two Mercedes-Maybach S 680 personalised by NBA star LeBron James, featuring a 621 hp V12, exclusive MANUFAKTUR finishes and bespoke detailing, will be auctioned in New York to support his charitable foundation

Mercedes-Benz and NBA superstar LeBron James have collaborated on a bespoke Mercedes-Maybach S 680, with one of two nearly identical examples set to be auctioned for charity at Retromobile New York in November 2026. Created through Mercedes-Benz’s MANUFAKTUR Made to Measure programme, the project began with a one-off S-Class designed for James’ personal collection. Following the positive response, Mercedes-Benz and James developed a second, near-identical example to benefit the LeBron James Family Foundation (LJFF). The auction vehicle is a 2027 Mercedes-Maybach S 680, powered by a 6.0-litre V12 producing 621 hp. Mercedes-Benz quotes combined WLTP fuel consumption of 11.0–11.7 L/100 km and CO₂ emissions of 252–267 g/km. James will retain the original vehicle.

Exterior and Interior Details

The exclusive Mercedes-Maybach S 680 features a light ivory non-metallic exterior paired with a Stormy Weather Blue Nappa leather interior and porcelain contrast stitching. The colour combination gives the luxury saloon a distinctive appearance while reflecting the personal design choices made for James.

Personalised cushions, floor mats and headrests feature his signature, while the LJ crown logo appears across several interior and exterior elements, including the front fenders, dashboard, headrests and floorboards. In a first for Maybach, the traditional V12 badge has been replaced with a bespoke emblem featuring James’ personal logo.

The vehicle also carries a discreet badge displaying the geographical coordinates of Akron, Ohio, where James grew up. The detail pays tribute to his hometown and the community supported by his foundation.

The project highlights the capabilities of Mercedes-Benz’s MANUFAKTUR Made to Measure programme. Customers can work with specialists to personalise paint finishes, upholstery, stitching, embroidery, leatherwork, steering wheels and other design elements, subject to technical feasibility.

Mercedes-Maybach S 680 Auction Dates and Location

Gooding Christie’s will offer the bespoke Mercedes-Maybach S 680 at Retromobile New York, scheduled to take place at the Javits Center from 19 to 22 November 2026. Auction sales are planned for 20 and 21 November.

Before the auction, the car will be displayed at Mercedes-Benz Manhattan from 9 to 16 November. It will then move to the Javits Center ahead of the sale. Mercedes-Benz lists the exhibition dates at the venue as 19–20 November, while Gooding Christie’s has announced auction previews from 19–21 November.

Retromobile New York is the American edition of the Paris-origin Rétromobile collector-car event, bringing together historic automobiles, rare vehicles and high-end automotive collections.

Auction Proceeds to Support the LeBron James Family Foundation

The sale will benefit the LeBron James Family Foundation and its I PROMISE programme, which supports students and families in Akron, Ohio. The initiative focuses on education while also providing resources intended to help families build long-term stability.

Its programmes include educational assistance, mentoring and support related to housing, healthcare, home ownership, job training and financial literacy. The charitable auction connects the bespoke Maybach project with James’ wider efforts to create opportunities for children and families in his hometown.

Reflecting on the collaboration, James said:

“The chance to design my own customised Mercedes-Maybach was something I never even dreamed of as a young kid growing up in Akron.”

He added that the auction offers an opportunity to give back to his community and support the families served by his foundation.
