The one-millionth BMW M vehicle is finished in BMW Individual Fire Orange III, while the future fully electric BMW M3 will be built exclusively in Munich using Neue Klasse technology. The legendary high-performance division BMW M has reached a major milestone, producing its one-millionth M car, a BMW M3 finished in BMW Individual Fire Orange III and built at BMW Group Plant Munich. The milestone vehicle was officially handed over by Munich plant head Peter Weber to BMW M CEO Franciscus van Meel, marking more than five decades of BMW M performance cars and 40 years since the original BMW M3 entered the market.
BMW has also confirmed that the first fully electric BMW M3 will be manufactured exclusively at its Munich plant, marking a major shift towards electric performance cars under the Neue Klasse platform.
The upcoming BMW M3 EV will be the first high-performance M model based on BMW M Neue Klasse technology and will follow the fully electric BMW i3 as the second Neue Klasse model produced in Munich.
BMW has not yet disclosed specifications such as power output, battery capacity or performance figures for the electric M3, but it is expected to play a key role in the brand’s future high-performance EV lineup.
Munich has strong historic ties to the M3, with production of the current generation starting there in 2020, further reinforcing the plant’s importance in BMW’s global manufacturing network.
BMW Group Plant Munich, which has been producing vehicles for more than a century, will transition to manufacturing only fully electric BMW models from 2027.
BMW is investing around €650 million into transforming the facility, including a new body shop, advanced vehicle assembly lines and upgraded logistics infrastructure to support EV production in Germany.
The transformation also focuses on increased digitalisation, modern production systems and closer integration between development teams and suppliers to improve efficiency for next-generation electric vehicles, including the future BMW M3 electric.
The one-millionth BMW M car milestone highlights both the legacy of BMW’s performance division and the transition towards an electrified future, as the iconic BMW M3 enters the Neue Klasse EV era.
