Design and dimensions

Based on the VENUS Concept, the Hyundai IONIQ V introduces the brand’s new ‘The Origin’ design language for its China-focused EV lineup. The first thing that stands out is its clean, wedge-shaped silhouette, with a smooth single-curve profile that gives it a futuristic presence without looking overly aggressive.

Details like frameless doors, floating mirrors, and a distinctive lighting signature add to the overall design, while keeping things relatively minimal. At 4,900 mm in length with a 2,900 mm wheelbase, the IONIQ V sits firmly in the large SUV space, which translates into a more spacious, lounge-like cabin inside.

Technology and range

Inside, the focus is clearly on comfort and usability. The cabin feels more like a mobile lounge, with improved ride quality, lower noise levels, and generous space across both rows…something that should appeal to buyers looking for a premium electric SUV experience.

The highlight here is the 27-inch ultra-thin 4K panoramic display, which combines infotainment and driving information into a single, seamless interface. It’s paired with a head-up display, ambient lighting, and a layout that feels intuitive rather than overwhelming.

Technology is a major talking point. The LLM-based AI assistant, powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8295 chipset, enables more natural voice interactions, moving beyond basic commands to something that feels closer to a real assistant.

On the safety front, the Hyundai IONIQ V EV features a strengthened body structure, nine airbags, and multiple driver assistance systems. These include advanced ADAS technologies developed with Momenta, along with features like pedal misapplication safety assist, adding an extra layer of everyday usability.

While battery specifications haven’t been fully revealed, the long-range version is expected to deliver over 600 km of driving range (CLTC), making it suitable for both daily commutes and longer journeys.

Beijing Hyundai’s electrification roadmap

With the launch of the IONIQ V, Beijing Hyundai is continuing to expand its electric vehicle lineup in China. The brand plans to introduce another SUV in the first half of 2027, followed by a broader rollout across midsize and large EV segments, including both battery electric vehicles (BEVs) and extended-range electric vehicles (EREVs).

Our thoughts

The Hyundai IONIQ V feels like a step towards a more lifestyle-focused electric SUV, blending design, space, and technology in a way that stands out.
