Entry-spec Mercedes-AMG GT 53 4-Door Coupé gets 544 PS

Two motors, 544 PS and 800 Nm

The GT 53 uses two permanently excited synchronous electric motors, one on each axle, producing 544 PS and 800 Nm. Continuous output is rated at 367 PS, with maximum boost available for up to 53 seconds.

The rear motor uses a two-speed transmission, with a short 11:1 first gear for acceleration and urban efficiency and a 5:1 second ratio for higher-speed performance and motorway efficiency. The front motor primarily acts as a booster and can disconnect under lighter loads to save energy.
Mercedes-AMG quotes 0–100 km/h in 3.5 seconds with a one-foot rollout, or 3.9 seconds from a conventional standing start. Top speed is limited to 230 km/h, rising to 250 km/h with the optional AMG Driver’s Package.

Power is sent through AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive, with fully variable torque distribution between the front and rear axles.

106 kWh battery and 600 kW charging

The GT 53 uses a 106 kWh usable, 800-volt battery containing 2,660 cylindrical cells across 18 modules. The cells feature an NCMA cathode and silicon-containing anode, with Mercedes-AMG quoting an energy density of more than 298 Wh/kg.

Each cell is directly surrounded by electrically non-conductive cooling oil, while a Central Coolant Hub manages temperatures across the battery, motors and other components.
Maximum DC charging power is a claimed 600 kW, allowing up to 534 km of WLTP range to be added in 10 minutes under suitable conditions. A 10–80 per cent charge takes a claimed 11 minutes, while AC charging is supported at up to 11 kW. The system can also switch automatically between 800- and 400-volt charging.
WLTP range is provisionally rated at 682 to 809 km, with urban range of 761 to 880 km. Combined energy consumption stands at 15.6–18.5 kWh/100 km. Mercedes-AMG notes that the range, charging and consumption figures remain preliminary pending final homologation.

Six-cylinder soundtrack for an electric AMG

Despite being fully electric, the GT 53 attempts to retain some traditional AMG theatre.

Selecting AMGFORCE Sport+ introduces simulated gear changes and digitally reproduced combustion-engine sounds inspired by the 3.0-litre inline-six from the former Mercedes-AMG E 53 Coupé.

AMG recorded the engine using 16 microphone positions and carried out more than 100 measurements to reproduce its character. Drivers can also trigger simulated manual shifts using the steering-wheel paddles.

A Sound Slider provides Powerful, Balanced and Minimal profiles, with further adjustment between Classic and Futuristic sound characteristics.

Air suspension and active aerodynamics

The GT 53 features AMG Ride Control air suspension with adaptive damping, offering Comfort, Sport and Sport+ settings.

Despite accommodating its large battery beneath the floor, the new GT 4-Door Coupé is around 40 mm flatter than its predecessor.

A standard AEROKINETICS active rear spoiler adjusts according to speed and driving conditions, while an optional active rear diffuser reduces drag at higher speeds. The spoiler remains retracted at speeds of up to 150 km/h under normal conditions before changing position to optimise stability, downforce or efficiency.

The GT 53 has a claimed 0.21 drag coefficient and measures 5,094 mm long, 1,959 mm wide and 1,411 mm high, with a 3,040 mm wheelbase. Kerb weight is 2,375 kg.

Driver-focused interior

Inside, the GT 53 combines a low seating position with grand-touring comfort. A 14-inch central touchscreen is angled towards the driver, while a separate passenger display is optional.

Other features include twin wireless smartphone charging trays, illuminated cupholders, individual rear seats and a Sky Control panoramic glass roof that can switch between transparent and opaque sections.

The Response Control rotary controller allows accelerator response to be adjusted independently of the selected drive mode, while AMG Dynamic Select offers Comfort, Sport, AMGFORCE Sport+, Slippery, Eco and Individual programmes.

Boot capacity stands at 415 litres VDA, joined by a 41-litre VDA frunk. Mercedes-AMG also quotes liquid-volume figures of 507 litres and 62 litres respectively.

German sales begin in August

The Mercedes-AMG GT 53 4-Door Coupé goes on sale in Germany from August 13, 2026, priced from €115,430 including VAT, or approximately USD 133,100 / AED 489,100.
