Porsche has unveiled a major update for the 2027 Porsche Taycan, bringing a more emotional driving character, upgraded digital systems, faster charging capability and wider customization options. The highlight of the update is the new E-Shift virtual gear system, designed to make the electric sports sedan feel closer than ever to a traditional performance car.
At the centre of the update is the Porsche E-Shift system, now available across the Taycan lineup. It introduces virtual gear changes, simulated shift feedback, a revised Porsche Electric Sport Sound and a digital rev counter, all designed to enhance driver engagement.
Drivers can switch between automatic and manual modes, with manual control offering eight simulated gears operated via paddles mounted behind the GT Sport steering wheel. The system recreates a combustion-style driving feel through shift-like torque changes, a virtual rev limiter and adaptive sound profiles that respond to driving style.
A gear indicator and shift lights appear in the instrument cluster, while the system can be fully activated or deactivated depending on driver preference. It also comes as standard on the Taycan Turbo GT.
The updated range brings a significant hardware upgrade, with the Taycan, Taycan 4 and Taycan 4S now equipped with a 105 kWh Performance Battery Plus as standard.
Charging performance has also improved, with support for up to 320 kW DC fast charging on 800-volt systems, along with a new battery health monitoring display.
In selected markets, most Taycan variants now feature a native NACS fast-charging port, while retaining a secondary AC charging port for compatibility. A CCS adapter is also included for broader infrastructure support.
Inside the cabin, Porsche has introduced its latest Porsche Communication Management (PCM) system, offering significantly faster processing power and a redesigned interface.
The system features a cleaner layout, configurable widgets and a 3D vehicle model that matches the car’s exterior specification, adding a more personalised visual experience.
A new App Center expands functionality with third-party apps for navigation, entertainment, parking and charging services. The Themes app allows drivers to customise display colours and ambient lighting to match personal preferences.
The Taycan now features a more advanced AI-supported Voice Pilot, enabling natural, conversational control of vehicle functions, navigation and media.
Drivers can perform hands-free tasks such as adjusting settings, searching for destinations, controlling charging functions and accessing the digital owner’s manual without repeating activation phrases.
Navigation has also been improved with more accurate route planning, enhanced 3D mapping and a smarter charging planner for long-distance EV travel.
The updated model supports over-the-air infotainment updates, allowing new features and improvements to be installed seamlessly in the background.
Wireless smartphone charging has also been upgraded, now delivering up to 25W output with improved magnetic alignment, making it significantly faster and more efficient than before.
Porsche has also expanded its Paint to Sample programme to 153 colours, adding new shades such as Loretta Purple and Rose Red, alongside the return of iconic finishes like Shark Blue and Python Green.
This strengthens the Taycan’s position as one of the most customizable electric performance cars on sale.
For enthusiasts, the Taycan Turbo GT with Weissach Package can now be fitted with an optional Manthey Kit, developed to further enhance aerodynamics, braking and suspension performance.
The package includes revised aero components, upgraded wheels and tyres, larger brakes and chassis tuning. A similarly equipped prototype has already recorded a Nürburgring lap time of 6:55.553, highlighting its track-focused capability.
The updated 2027 Porsche Taycan range is currently available to order in the United States, with deliveries expected to begin in late 2026.
Pricing starts from approximately USD 111,900 (around AED 411,000) for the entry rear-wheel-drive model, excluding destination and handling charges.
Porsche has not yet confirmed GCC or UAE pricing, with regional specifications and launch details expected closer to market introduction.
