Lucid recalls 27,185 Air EVs over fire risk

Lucid is recalling 27,185 Air electric luxury sedans in the United States over an electrical issue that could increase the risk of a fire, according to the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA). The recall affects 2022 to 2026 model-year Lucid Air sedans and is the EV manufacturer’s largest recall to date. The problem is linked to an exterior lighting circuit controlled by what Lucid describes as an eFuse, a software-controlled alternative to a conventional physical fuse. According to Lucid’s filing with NHTSA, incorrect software logic could allow excessive current to pass through the circuit instead of cutting power at the required threshold, potentially causing the circuit to overheat. NHTSA says overheating could increase the risk of a fire. The same fault could also result in a loss of exterior lighting, increasing the risk of a crash.

Owners advised to park outside

NHTSA has advised owners of affected vehicles to park outside and away from structures until the remedy has been installed.

However, the fix does not require the replacement of physical components. Lucid has issued an over-the-air software update designed to correct the issue.

By the time the recall was announced, Lucid had already updated 20,719 of the 27,185 affected vehicles, according to NHTSA.

The software remedy was released before the formal recall announcement, with Yahoo Finance reporting that the corrected software began reaching vehicles in July. Lucid’s Product Safety Executive Council later classified the issue as a safety defect on August 13, 2026.

Lucid’s largest recall to date

The latest action represents Lucid’s biggest recall by vehicle count. The 27,185 affected Air sedans exceed the 15,841 vehicles Lucid delivered during the whole of 2025, according to Reuters.

It is also not the company’s first US recall this year.

In January, Lucid recalled more than 10,000 vehicles over an issue that could cause the rear-view camera image not to appear. In May, another 2,039 vehicles were recalled over potential loss of drive power. Reuters reports that both issues were also addressed through over-the-air software updates.

The latest recall concerns Lucid Air sedans sold in the US. The reports cited do not state that the recall applies to vehicles outside the United States, so owners in other markets should not assume their cars are affected unless Lucid or their local regulator issues a corresponding recall notice.
