Motorists across the UAE have an opportunity to remove four black points from their driving records under the Ministry of Interior’s annual Accident-Free Day, also referred to as A Day Without Accidents. The nationwide initiative will take place on August 31, 2026, coinciding with the first day of the 2026–27 academic year, when roads and areas surrounding schools are expected to become considerably busier. Registration opened on August 17, and drivers who register, sign the campaign’s safety pledge and comply with its conditions can qualify to have four traffic black points deducted from their records.
Motorists can register through the link published on the Ministry of Interior’s official @MOIUAE social media channels and sign in using UAE Pass. Participants must accept the campaign commitments and sign the Accident-Free Day pledge.
Signing up alone is not enough. Drivers must comply with the initiative’s requirements and avoid traffic violations on August 31 to qualify for the black-point reduction.
Authorities encourage participants to follow key safety practices:
Ensure the vehicle is roadworthy
Follow speed limits, especially near schools
Avoid mobile phone use while driving
Stay within lanes and maintain safe distance
Give priority to pedestrians
Drive cautiously when overtaking or changing lanes
Wear seatbelts at all times
Give way to emergency vehicles
These measures are intended to reduce collisions and improve safety during one of the busiest mornings of the school year.
Motorists who successfully meet the campaign requirements are expected to have four black points automatically removed from their records on September 25, without needing to visit a police station or service centre.
The incentive can be particularly useful for motorists who already have black points on their licences. In the UAE, accumulating 24 black points can result in a driving-licence suspension.
The initiative is organised by the Ministry of Interior through the Federal Traffic Council, in coordination with police forces across the UAE.
August 31 has been selected because it marks the return of students to school, when additional school buses, parents and commuters are expected to increase traffic around educational areas and during peak periods.
Brigadier Juma Salem bin Suwaidan, Director of the General Department of Traffic at Dubai Police and head of the initiative, has urged motorists and parents to exercise patience, follow speed limits around schools, avoid distractions and give priority to pedestrians.
While the four-black-point reduction provides a clear incentive to participate, authorities say the wider aim is to encourage motorists to turn the safe-driving habits practised on August 31 into everyday behaviour.
The campaign has attracted significant participation in previous years, with more than 300,000 motorists taking part in earlier editions.
For drivers carrying black points, the message is simple: register for Accident-Free Day, sign the pledge and drive safely on August 31, and four black points could be removed from your record.
