Japanese automaker Honda has issued a safety recall affecting 4,804 vehicles in the United States after identifying a potential defect in their tyre repair kits. The issue could cause a sealant bottle cap to detach under pressure, posing an injury risk during use. The Honda Accord and CR-V recall covers selected Accord Hybrid, CR-V Hybrid and CR-V Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle (FCEV) models, according to a safety recall report filed with the US National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and published on October 14, 2026.
The Honda tyre repair kit recall affects the following models and production years:
Honda Accord Hybrid (2023–2026): 2,058 vehicles
Honda CR-V Hybrid (2023–2026): 2,745 vehicles
Honda CR-V FCEV (2025): 1 vehicle
Honda estimates that approximately 1% of the 4,804 potentially affected vehicles may contain the defective component. The recall population was identified using manufacturing records.
The affected Honda tyre repair kits contain a nozzle fitted with a one-way valve. If improperly connected to the tyre valve during use, pressure can build inside the sealant bottle.
If the pressure relief valve fails to operate as intended, excessive pressure could cause the bottle cap to detach, increasing the risk of injury.
The issue is linked to an earlier Honda recall, identified as NHTSA Recall 26V-366.
According to Honda, inadequate change-point management at the supplier allowed older, pre-correction components to become mixed with updated parts in its warehouse. Some older components were subsequently shipped and installed in affected vehicles.
Honda will notify affected vehicle owners by mail and instruct them to visit an authorised Honda dealership for an inspection of the tyre repair kit nozzle.
Dealership technicians will inspect the component and replace the nozzle where necessary. The replacement nozzle eliminates the one-way valve found in the potentially defective component.
Honda scheduled dealership notifications for October 9, 2026, while owner notification letters are expected to begin on November 16, 2026.
Owners of potentially affected vehicles in the United States can also check their vehicle identification number (VIN) through the official NHTSA recall database to determine whether their vehicle is included.
The latest Honda Accord Hybrid and CR-V Hybrid recall applies to vehicles identified in the United States through the NHTSA safety filing.
At the time of reporting, there has been no official confirmation that Honda Accord Hybrid, CR-V Hybrid or CR-V FCEV models sold in the UAE or wider GCC are affected by the same tyre repair kit defect.
Honda owners in the UAE can contact their authorised local dealership for information about any applicable safety recalls.
