The Roads and Transport Authority has updated its driver training curriculum for applicants seeking a light vehicle driving licence, (the passenger car to us common folk) aligning it with modern vehicle technologies and international safety standards.
The revised curriculum now includes training on Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), which are increasingly common in modern vehicles. These include:
Forward collision warning
Blind spot monitoring
Lane departure warning
Lane-keeping support systems
Parking assist functions
Night vision systems
Anti-lock Braking System (ABS)
Conventional and adaptive cruise control
According to Sultan Al Akraf, the updates align with internationally recognised standards set by the CIECA and aim to enhance road safety, improve driver behaviour, and reduce traffic accidents by ensuring learners understand the latest in-vehicle technologies.
Developed in collaboration with driving institutes in Dubai, the revised curriculum has been integrated into:
Driver handbooks
Theoretical training modules
Practical driving lessons
Awareness lectures for licence applicants
The Dubai RTA said the move supports its broader strategy of enhancing road safety, enabling smart mobility, and delivering innovative transport services that improve customer experience. Officials added that the updated curriculum will help drivers keep pace with the rapid evolution of ADAS technologies and global driver training programmes.
According to the RTA, more than 250,000 trainees in Dubai have benefited from the updated driver training programme in recent years. Workshops have also been organised for driving institutes across Dubai to ensure advanced driving systems are taught in line with the specifications of modern training vehicles.
As vehicles become increasingly smarter and safety-focused, Dubai’s updated driving curriculum reflects how modern driver education is evolving alongside automotive technology.
Are you planning to get your driving licence in Dubai soon, and are you already familiar with ADAS systems such as lane assist, blind spot monitoring, and collision warning? More importantly, do you believe these technologies genuinely enhance road safety and pedestrian safety on today’s roads? Let us know in the comments!
