The European-spec Tesla Semi offers up to 550 km of range at 40 tonnes, consumes around 1 kWh/km and can recover approximately 60% of its range in 30 minutes using Megacharging

Electric vehicle manufacturer Tesla has confirmed that the Tesla Semi is coming to Europe, revealing key specifications for the region’s version of its all-electric heavy-duty truck. According to Tesla, the Semi delivers up to 550 km of driving range at a 40-tonne gross combination weight (fully loaded), while energy consumption is rated at approximately 1 kWh/km under test conditions.

Up to 550 km fully loaded

The European Tesla Semi features a 40-tonne gross combination weight and a curb weight of 9,100 kg. It also includes an electric power take-off (ePTO) system delivering up to 25 kW, allowing the truck to power external equipment and auxiliary systems.

The Semi uses three independent electric motors mounted on the rear axles, delivering instant torque without the need for traditional gear changes. Independent front suspension is designed to improve ride comfort and reduce road vibrations, while the aerodynamic exterior supports efficiency and range optimisation.

Tesla notes that the quoted range and consumption figures are based on specific operating conditions, with real-world results influenced by factors such as tyre selection, trailer configuration and aerodynamic add-ons.

Up to 800 kW Megacharging

Tesla’s Megacharger network enables charging speeds of up to 800 kW, allowing the Semi to recover around 60% of its driving range in approximately 30 minutes.

For depot-based charging, Tesla also offers a 120 kW Basecharger, aimed at overnight or longer-duration charging scenarios. The truck’s onboard Trip Planner can automatically integrate charging stops based on route, load and availability of infrastructure.

Tesla has also launched its Semi Charging for Business programme in key European markets including Germany, France, Belgium, the Netherlands and the UK, allowing fleet operators to deploy dedicated charging infrastructure at their facilities. Deliveries in Europe are expected to begin around mid-2027, although pricing has not yet been confirmed.

Central driving position

Inside, the Tesla Semi adopts a central driving position, placing the driver in the middle of the cabin for improved visibility and balanced ergonomics. The layout also simplifies entry and exit on both sides of the vehicle.

The cabin provides sufficient headroom for the driver to stand and includes features such as a heated and ventilated driver’s seat, coat storage, acoustic glass and sound-insulating materials. Like other Tesla vehicles, the Semi supports over-the-air software updates, enabling continuous improvements and new functionality over time.

Fleet management and servicing

Through Tesla for Business, fleet operators can monitor and manage their vehicles remotely, including tracking location, charging status, tyre pressure and energy usage. The platform also supports digital servicing workflows, including maintenance scheduling, cost estimates and invoicing.

Tesla says the Semi will be supported by a network of dedicated service centres, remote diagnostics and Mobile Service capabilities where applicable. Spare parts will be stocked across service and distribution hubs to help reduce downtime. The company also highlights lower operating and maintenance costs compared with diesel trucks, although actual savings depend on energy prices, usage patterns and operating conditions.

Tesla expands Semi operations in Europe

Tesla’s European rollout of the Semi is supported by the expansion of Megacharger infrastructure for both public and private fleet use. Businesses across multiple countries can now begin preparing charging facilities ahead of large-scale deployment.

The key specifications confirmed for the European Tesla Semi include up to 550 km of range at 40 tonnes fully loaded, energy consumption of around 1 kWh/km, Megacharging speeds of up to 800 kW with 60% range recovery in 30 minutes, up to 25 kW ePTO output, a 40-tonne gross combination weight and a 9,100 kg curb weight.
