Nissan has secured a Guinness World Records title with the latest Nissan Qashqai e-POWER, completing a 1,980 km journey on a single tank without refuelling or external charging. The achievement highlights the efficiency and long-range capability of Nissan’s e-POWER electrified powertrain, combining electric driving characteristics with the convenience of petrol refuelling.
Record verified in Colombia
The record-setting drive took place between 14 and 17 July 2026, starting in Bogotá and travelling towards Colombia’s Caribbean coast.
The route covered a wide range of real-world conditions, including urban traffic, highways and varying terrain.
The entire journey was independently monitored and officially verified by Guinness World Records, confirming the longest distance travelled by a non-plug-in extended-range electric SUV without external charging or refuelling.
The run follows previous long-distance e-POWER journeys conducted in the United Kingdom and Tasmania, further demonstrating the system’s consistency across different climates and environments.
How Nissan e-POWER works
Unlike traditional hybrids, the petrol engine in an e-POWER vehicle does not drive the wheels directly.
Instead, it acts as a generator to produce electricity, which powers the electric motor and charges the battery. The wheels are driven entirely by the electric motor, delivering smooth acceleration and instant response similar to a fully electric vehicle.
This setup allows drivers to experience EV-like performance without needing access to charging infrastructure, as the vehicle can simply be refuelled with petrol.
New 5-in-1 electrified powertrain
The latest e-POWER system features Nissan’s compact 5-in-1 modular powertrain, integrating the motor, generator, inverter, reducer and increaser into a single unit.
Regenerative braking helps recover energy during deceleration, further improving efficiency and extending driving range.
