Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift opens at Universal Studios

116 km/h and up to 3.6 g

Hollywood Drift features around 4,100 feet, or 1.25 km, of aerial track built with sound-reduction technology.

The dual-launch roller coaster uses a split-track system, alternating trains and propelling riders through four launches, an inverted dive loop, a twisted pretzel loop and an inverted stall, generating forces of up to 3.6 g.

Sections of the track pass both above and below the park’s multi-level Starway escalator, which connects the Upper and Lower Lots.

A key highlight is its 360-degree rotating ride system, allowing individual cars to spin as the train moves, simulating the sensation of high-speed drifting.

Part of the ride also travels through a transparent enclosed section within the queue, giving waiting guests a close-up view of the coaster in motion.

Charger, RX-7, Skyline GT-R and Supra ride vehicles

The attraction features ride vehicles styled after iconic cars from the Fast & Furious films, including the Dodge Charger, Mazda RX-7, Nissan Skyline GT-R and Toyota Supra.

Each vehicle is designed to reflect its on-screen counterpart, recreating the look and feel of the franchise’s street-racing scenes.

Every car includes its own dedicated audio system, delivering engine sounds and effects tailored to each vehicle. With independently rotating cars and programming, Universal says riders can experience four different ride variations depending on the vehicle assigned.

Fast & Furious theme starts before the ride

Located on the Upper Lot, Hollywood Drift is housed inside a large red-brick structure designed to resemble a performance garage, with replica cars positioned outside for photos.

Inside, the queue area features authentic props and recreations from the films, including the Car Cannon from Fast & Furious 6, a 2010 Dodge Charger SRT8 roll cage from Fast Five, the Fast Five vault truck, Letty Ortiz’s motorcycle from F9, a NOS system, Owen Shaw’s Ramp Car and the Rolling Bomb from Fast X.

Some displays include QR codes linking to behind-the-scenes content via Universal’s Backlot Club.

The boarding platform features an original mural by artist Tristan Eaton, depicting a street-racing scene from The Fast and the Furious, while another mural in the queue celebrates the wider franchise.

Built into Universal Studios Hollywood’s hillside

With space limited at the Hollywood theme park, Universal Creative incorporated the existing hillside into the coaster’s design.

The track uses the terrain between the Upper and Lower Lots while offering views across the San Fernando Valley, Universal’s working movie studio and the theme park itself.

Guests must place loose belongings, including mobile phones, in complimentary lockers inside the queue and pass through metal detection before boarding.

Fast & Furious: Hollywood Drift is now open at Universal Studios Hollywood, bringing the franchise’s modified cars, drifting theme and high-speed action to a roller coaster capable of reaching 116 km/h.
