BMW ALPINA has shared details of high-speed testing for its first production model under the newly established BMW Group brand. The camouflaged prototype was put through its paces at the 12.6-kilometre Nardò high-speed circuit in southern Italy, where it exceeded 300 km/h. The testing reflects BMW ALPINA's 'Speed, not Sport' philosophy, which places greater emphasis on effortless high-speed performance, stability, comfort and long-distance capability than outright sportiness. Oliver Viellechner, Vice President of BMW ALPINA, explained that the brand's ambitions go beyond achieving high top speeds. The aim is to ensure the vehicle remains composed, stable and confidence-inspiring, even when driven at its limits.
The new BMW ALPINA is powered by a V8 engine developed to deliver immediate yet refined responses, with maximum torque available across virtually the entire rev range.
Specially calibrated engine management and accelerator pedal mapping are designed to provide smooth, progressive power delivery without an overly aggressive character. The transmission has also been optimised to handle higher maximum engine speeds and increased power output.
The high-speed development programme focuses on how the engine, transmission, suspension and aerodynamics work together. The prototype combines a dynamically capable suspension setup with a focus on ride comfort, while its aerodynamically optimised body is designed to maintain composure and stability at sustained high speeds.
Although the prototype remains camouflaged, several signature BMW ALPINA design elements are visible. These include:
20-spoke light-alloy wheels: Developed alongside specially matched tyres to balance performance and comfort.
Foam-layer tyres: Specially developed tyres featuring an additional foam layer, which BMW says contributes to driving precision, comfort and high-speed capability.
Quad oval exhaust outlets: A signature ALPINA design feature, accompanied by a rich, deep exhaust note.
BMW ALPINA has also released a video showing the prototype accelerating beyond 300 km/h, offering a closer look at its performance and engineering. However, the model's ultimate top speed has not yet been disclosed.
The prototype marks an important milestone in BMW ALPINA's next chapter, following its relaunch as an exclusive, standalone brand within the BMW Group on 1 January 2026.
BMW has previously confirmed that the first new-generation ALPINA model, inspired by the BMW 7 Series, is scheduled to be introduced in 2027.
Official details covering power output, torque, maximum speed and pricing have yet to be announced.
