Ford Mustang Mach-E GTThe Ford Mustang Mach-E GT represents one of the boldest shifts in automotive identity. One of the most iconic muscle car names now sits on an all-electric crossover, a move that, for purists, borders on sacrilege. There is no long bonnet hiding a V8, no thunderous exhaust note. Instead, the Mach-E GT arrives with dual electric motors and all-wheel drive. The question is simple: does it deserve the Mustang badge? To find out, we drove it back-to-back with the traditional two-door Mustang GT.
The Mach-E is a mid-size crossover measuring 4,743 mm long, 1,881 mm wide and 1,613 mm tall. It sits close to the Mustang coupe in length, but with added height and a more rounded, aerodynamic profile.
Despite its proportions, it avoids looking like a generic EV. Black detailing across the front splitter, side sills and rear valance visually lowers the car, especially in bright colours like our test car’s yellow finish.
At the front, the signature three-bar LED lighting instantly links it to the Mustang family, even though the traditional grille is replaced by a closed-off panel. From the side, the fastback-style roofline is the strongest visual callback, complemented by striking dual-tone 20-inch alloy wheels.
The rear design feels slightly abrupt from certain angles, but the triple LED tail lamps anchor it firmly within Mustang design DNA.
Step inside and the Mach-E immediately distances itself from retro nostalgia.
The door handles use a button-operated release, giving the cabin a futuristic edge. The dashboard follows a clean EV layout, dominated by a large 15-inch infotainment screen and a compact 10.2-inch digital driver display.
A standout detail is the integration of the 10-speaker Bang & Olufsen soundbar into the fabric-lined dashboard, adding both visual and acoustic character.
The steering wheel is thick and sporty, with the familiar Mustang pony badge at the centre. Instead of a traditional gear lever, a rotary-style selector simplifies operation.
Performance seats finished in ActiveX faux leather offer good support and comfort, with 10-way power adjustment. Storage is generous, with wireless charging, cupholders and multiple compartments.
Unlike the coupe, the rear seats are genuinely usable, offering strong legroom and headroom. Boot space expands from 402 litres to 1,420 litres with the rear seats folded, making it far more practical than any traditional Mustang.
The Mach-E GT trades muscle car drama for electric performance.
It uses a dual-motor setup paired with a 91 kWh battery, producing 487 hp and a massive 950 Nm of torque. The result is a claimed 0-100 km/h time of just 3.3 seconds quicker than the V8 Mustang GT.
But the experience is fundamentally different. There is no build-up, no soundtrack, just instant, relentless acceleration. It launches hard and stays planted, with all-wheel drive delivering impressive grip through corners.
MagneRide adaptive suspension keeps the ride composed, while Brembo front brakes provide strong, consistent stopping power. One Pedal Drive enhances regeneration and makes urban driving smoother.
The battery offers a claimed 450 km WLTP range, though real-world figures vary depending on conditions and driving style. Charging options include:
AC 7.0 kW: 0–100% in ~14h 20m
AC 10.5 kW: ~9h 42m
DC 150 kW: 10–80% in ~37 minutes
During our drive, we observed around 45 kW charging via the UAEV network.
Safety is comprehensive, with adaptive cruise control, multiple ADAS features, a 360-degree camera and ISOFIX mounts.
The 2026 Mustang Mach-E GT challenges everything the Mustang name traditionally stands for.
It is not a muscle car in the classic sense. The V8 soundtrack, rear-wheel-drive playfulness and mechanical drama are gone. In their place is a fast, capable and highly usable electric performance SUV.
For purists, that shift may be difficult to accept. But for buyers looking to step into electric mobility without giving up performance or visual identity, the Mach-E GT makes a strong case.
It may not feel like a traditional Mustang but it proves that the badge can evolve.
