MG Motor Middle East has announced the deployment of 570 MG8 plug-in hybrid electric vehicles (PHEVs) across taxi fleets in the UAE and Saudi Arabia, marking one of the brand's most significant regional fleet deployments to date. Announced on 26 October 2026, the agreements include 400 MG8 PHEVs for Metro Taxi LLC in the UAE and another 170 vehicles for a taxi network in Saudi Arabia. The agreements were secured through MG's official distributors, Inter Emirates Motors (IEM) in the UAE and Jiad Modern Motors in Saudi Arabia, strengthening the brand's presence in commercial fleets, public transport and New Energy Vehicles (NEVs).
Designed for intensive daily use, the MG8 PHEV delivers a claimed combined driving range of up to 1,655 km and fuel consumption of 3.32 litres per 100 km. These figures could help fleet operators reduce fuel costs and limit the frequency of refuelling and charging stops.
The plug-in hybrid sedan features MG's DMH Super Hybrid system, which combines a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an electric drive unit. The powertrain produces 201 hp and 330 Nm of torque, while the vehicle offers a claimed all-electric range of up to 125 km.
MG says the large-scale taxi deployments will demonstrate the MG8 PHEV's suitability for high-mileage operations, with a focus on efficiency, durability, reliability and passenger comfort.
Dubai's RTA-regulated taxi fleets have traditionally included models such as the Toyota Camry, Toyota Innova, Hyundai Sonata and Nissan Altima. Electric vehicles, including the BYD Seal, have also begun joining the fleet. According to the RTA, 90% of Dubai's operational taxi fleet was hybrid or electric in 2025, highlighting the emirate's shift towards cleaner public transport.
Jacky Xu, Managing Director of MG Motor Middle East, said the agreements represent an important step in expanding the brand's presence beyond private passenger cars into commercial fleets and public mobility.
He highlighted the MG8 PHEV's driving range, efficiency and passenger comfort as key attributes for demanding taxi operations. Its selection by operators in the UAE and Saudi Arabia also reflects MG's broader regional electrification strategy.
MG's electrified vehicle portfolio includes hybrids, plug-in hybrids, battery-electric vehicles and extended-range electric vehicles, giving private and commercial customers options suited to different driving requirements and market conditions. Its expanding fleet partnerships further strengthen the brand's position in the Middle East's evolving mobility sector.
Founded in Britain in 1924 and now owned by China's SAIC Motor, MG continues to expand its regional passenger vehicle and commercial fleet presence through new energy vehicle technologies.
