Mercedes-AMG GT SUV Global Debut: 1,169 hp and 700 km Range

Mercedes-AMG has unveiled its all-electric GT SUV in three variants, with up to 1,169 hp, 0–100 km/h acceleration in 2.7 seconds, a claimed 700 km WLTP range and peak DC charging of up to 710 kW

Mercedes-AMG has introduced its first entirely in-house-developed, full-size SUV in the brand’s 59-year history. Built on the AMG.EA electric architecture, the new GT SUV combines sports-car performance with the practicality of a five-seat SUV. The range includes the GT 53, GT 55 and GT 63, with production scheduled at Mercedes-Benz’s Sindelfingen plant in Germany.

Powertrain and Performance

The flagship Mercedes-AMG GT 63 SUV features three axial-flux electric motors producing a combined 860 kW (1,169 hp) and 2,000 Nm of torque. Its continuous output is rated at 530 kW (721 hp). The GT 63 accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 2.7 seconds, or 2.5 seconds with a one-foot rollout, and reaches a top speed of 270 km/h with the optional Driver’s Package.

The GT 55 also uses a three-motor configuration, delivering 600 kW (816 hp) and 1,860 Nm of torque. It completes the 0–100 km/h sprint in 3.1 seconds, with a top speed of 270 km/h when equipped with the Driver’s Package.

The entry-level GT 53 features two synchronous electric motors producing 400 kW (544 hp) and 800 Nm. It accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds and has a top speed of 250 km/h.

All three variants feature fully variable AMG Performance 4MATIC+ all-wheel drive. The GT 55 and GT 63 add rear-axle torque vectoring, while the GT 53 uses a two-speed rear transmission.

Battery, Range and Charging

The electric SUV uses an 800-volt AMG High Performance Battery system with Formula 1-inspired thermal management and directly oil-cooled cylindrical cells. Battery capacities of 106 kWh and 128 kWh are available, depending on the variant and configuration.

The GT 55 and GT 63 offer claimed WLTP ranges of 525–585 km and 620–700 km, respectively, with the larger battery. The GT 53 delivers a claimed range of 597–668 km with its 106 kWh battery.

DC fast-charging power reaches up to 600 kW or 710 kW, depending on the configuration. Under optimal conditions with compatible charging infrastructure, the system can add up to 450 km of WLTP range in 10 minutes. A 10–80% charge is claimed to take approximately 11–12 minutes.

A Central Coolant Hub manages battery and drivetrain temperatures during demanding driving and charging. The system also supports 400-volt charging and multiple international charging standards.

Chassis and Driving Dynamics

The new AMG ACTIVE RIDE CONTROL+ suspension combines adjustable air springs with hydraulic pitch and roll stabilisation, standard on the GT 63 and optional on the GT 55. All variants feature rear-axle steering with up to six degrees of adjustment, while carbon-ceramic brakes are standard on the GT 63 and optional on the GT 55.

The GT 55 and GT 63 feature AMG RACE ENGINEER, with three rotary controls for response, cornering and traction. Seven driving modes, namely Comfort, Sport, Eco, Slippery, Individual, RACE and AMGFORCE Sport+, are offered, the latter recreating recorded AMG V8 or six-cylinder sounds with simulated gear changes and seat vibrations.

Exterior Design and Aerodynamics

The new Mercedes-AMG GT SUV features a low roofline, wide track, muscular wheel arches and short overhangs. Frameless windows, an optionally illuminated AMG grille, star-shaped daytime running lights and six turbine-inspired circular taillights distinguish its exterior design.

Active aerodynamic elements help balance drag reduction and cooling requirements. The GT 55 and GT 63 feature an AEROKINETICS roof spoiler that can adjust from 150 km/h, while a front Airpanel system uses adjustable cooling slats to manage airflow.

The GT 63 measures 5,084 mm in length, 2,001 mm in width and 1,656 mm in height, with a 3,040 mm wheelbase. Its claimed drag coefficient is 0.27, while kerb weight ranges from 2,585 to 2,695 kg depending on battery configuration.

Personalisation options include more than 60 MANUFAKTUR paint finishes, coloured wheel accents and matching seatbelts.

Interior and Technology

The driver-focused cabin features a 10.2-inch instrument cluster, 14-inch central touchscreen and optional 14-inch passenger display. The MB.OS-based MBUX system integrates ChatGPT, Microsoft Bing and Google Gemini AI assistants, while AMG PERFORMANCE MENU, SET-UP and TRACK PACE provide vehicle data, personalised settings and racetrack telemetry.

Options include AMG Performance seats, Burmester 4D audio and a SKY CONTROL panoramic roof with switchable transparency and AMG lighting. The five-seater offers folding rear backrests, 607–1,740 litres of boot space, plus 78 litres of front storage (VDA) or 111 litres by liquid volume.

Mercedes-AMG GT SUV Price and Availability

Orders for the Mercedes-AMG GT 53 SUV open in Germany on 20 October 2026, with prices starting at €113,050, including 19% VAT. This is approximately US$127,000 or AED 466,000, subject to exchange-rate fluctuations.

The GT 55 and GT 63 are scheduled to follow in spring 2027. Mercedes-AMG has yet to confirm UAE pricing, specifications or local availability.

The new electric GT SUV expands Mercedes-AMG’s performance portfolio with a combination of high output, rapid charging and everyday practicality. Its eventual positioning in the UAE market will depend on local pricing, specification and availability.
