BMW Group Middle East officially unveiled the fifth-generation BMW X5 in the UAE on 2 November 2026, following the model's Middle East premiere in Qatar in late October. The new X5 will be represented by AGMC in Dubai, Sharjah and the Northern Emirates, and Abu Dhabi Motors in Abu Dhabi and Al Ain. First introduced in 1999, the BMW X5 pioneered the brand's Sports Activity Vehicle (SAV) line-up. The latest generation builds on that legacy, combining its established versatility and driving dynamics with design and technology inspired by BMW's Neue Klasse philosophy. It is also the first BMW model developed to accommodate five different powertrain technologies.
The fifth-generation BMW X5 adopts a more upright and sculpted exterior, drawing inspiration from BMW's Neue Klasse design language while retaining the familiar proportions of its SAV range.
Exterior highlights include a vertically aligned BMW Iconic Glow kidney grille, new double-X lighting signatures and BMW Winglets. The model also features recessed door handles that activate the electrically powered doors with a light touch.
Customers can choose from 11 exterior paint colours, alongside wheel options measuring up to 23 inches. The BMW X5 M60e xDrive sits at the top of the range as its sporting flagship, while optional M Sport and M Sport Pro packages offer further styling enhancements.
BMW also offers a selection of M Performance accessories, including a carbon-fibre front splitter, high-gloss black roof spoiler, aramid rear diffuser and mirror caps. Additional options include 21- and 23-inch summer and winter wheel sets, as well as M Performance floor mats.
Inside, the new BMW X5 features a redesigned, driver-focused cabin with clean surfaces and animated ambient lighting extending across the dashboard and doors. Decorative finishes include glass and optional slate, which BMW describes as an industry-first application.
The cabin is equipped with BMW Panoramic iDrive, running on BMW Operating System X. Its technology package includes a free-cut central display, BMW Panoramic Vision, which projects information across the width of the windscreen, and a BMW 3D Head-Up Display.
The multifunction steering wheel is integrated into the new interface, while an optional passenger display makes its debut in the X5, adding another digital feature to the front cabin.
The fifth-generation BMW X5 has been developed to support five powertrain technologies: petrol, diesel, plug-in hybrid, fully electric and hydrogen fuel cell. The hydrogen-powered BMW iX5 is scheduled to join the line-up in 2028.
According to BMW's UAE website, the petrol-powered BMW X5 40 xDrive is equipped with a six-cylinder engine producing 400 hp. It accelerates from 0–100 km/h in 5.3 seconds and reaches a top speed of 250 km/h. Its WLTP fuel consumption is rated at 8.6–9.0 l/100 km. Luggage capacity stands at 655 litres and increases to 1,850 litres with the rear seats folded.
The BMW X5 50e xDrive plug-in hybrid produces a combined 489 hp and accelerates from 0–100 km/h in 4.8 seconds. It offers a provisional WLTP electric driving range of 93–106 km, with weighted combined fuel consumption of 5.2–5.8 l/100 km.
For buyers seeking more performance, the BMW X5 M60e xDrive plug-in hybrid delivers 612 hp. It completes the 0–100 km/h sprint in 4.5 seconds and reaches a top speed of 250 km/h. Its provisional WLTP electric range is 92–99 km, while weighted combined fuel consumption is rated at 5.7–6.2 l/100 km.
The fully electric BMW iX5 60 xDrive uses sixth-generation BMW eDrive technology to produce 578 hp and 805 Nm of torque. It accelerates from 0–100 km/h in 4.6 seconds and has a top speed of 210 km/h. BMW quotes a provisional WLTP range of 645–845 km and energy consumption of 20.1–23.9 kWh/100 km.
The iX5's 800V electrical architecture supports DC fast charging at up to 460 kW. Under suitable conditions, this can add up to 350 km of WLTP range in 10 minutes. Its high-voltage battery uses newly developed cylindrical cells measuring 120 mm in height and also supports bidirectional charging.
The global line-up will also include the diesel-powered BMW X5 40d xDrive, which produces 313 hp.
The new BMW X5 comes with adaptive suspension as standard, alongside near-50:50 axle-load distribution. These features are designed to balance handling and ride comfort across different driving conditions.
Optional Adaptive Chassis Control and Adaptive Chassis Control Professional systems are also available. The latter adds roll stabilisation and will initially be offered on fully electric and plug-in hybrid versions.
BMW Symbiotic Drive combines Level 2 driver assistance technology with driver inputs. Meanwhile, the iX5 and upcoming iX5 Hydrogen feature BMW's Heart of Joy control technology and Soft-Stop function, designed to deliver smoother braking.
Production of the fifth-generation BMW X5 began in August 2026 at BMW's Spartanburg plant in South Carolina, USA, where the model has been manufactured since 1999. The facility will also produce its first fully electric model, the iX5, supported by an adjacent sixth-generation battery factory designed to operate without fossil fuels under normal conditions, helping reduce production-related emissions.
The first global X5 variants are scheduled to launch in late November 2026, followed by the fully electric and plug-in hybrid versions in early 2027. The new generation has already made its UAE debut through AGMC and Abu Dhabi Motors. However, the regional announcement does not specify local pricing, individual variant availability or customer delivery dates.
